Q: Teins S on 19" w/ bodykit
Q: Teins S on 19" w/ bodykit
Guys, I ordered Teins S springs for my car and want to know if you could help me out? I have a '00 GLE with 19" rims and stillen classic body kit. I am wondering if (please respond if you have Teins S, with pics too please)
1) if I lower my car do I need to cut the boots (people say yes, some no)
2) is the car going to be so low you can't go over standard speed bumps?
2) Will the struts go out or will they be okay and if they do, how long before they go out?
3) What struts give it the best ride with the Teins S and if I got them, would the boot needed to be cut/uncut?
4) Will I need a camber kit?
Thanks fellas. I had a 626 and dropped it and never had these problems. I didn't have many spring choices, didnt have to cut boots, and my shocks didnt go out even tho I dropped it over 2" although I needed a camber kit. Check out my pics: http://members.cardomain.com/tryboz
I decided on Teins S b/c I have atleast 3" in my front finderwell.
Do you think I should sell them? I know there's a ton of posts about this, but people contradict eachother, plus I'm looking for responses that people have had the set-up for awhile, not the weekend.

You want a set of aftermarket struts. Do you like firm ride or little bouncy ride? If roads are nice and smooth, I would get Illuminas. You just have to watch where you are going. Keep your eyes out for bumps and potholes.
1. Don't know if you have to, but I cut mine about 1/2" and haven't had a problem.
2. No, I constantly go over speed bumps to and from work. Haven't hit yet.
3. Should be alright, alot of people have s-tech's w/ no problems like myself.
4. I think Illuminas since their adjustable.
5. No just an alignment.
I think the s-tech drop looks beautiful. Only thing better is coilovers.

go with the illumina's for the s.techs - i made the mistake of s.tech/gr2's - i mean its an ok ride but really bouncy, bumpstops were cut also. the s.tech drop looks very nice and even. you will be satisfied with the look of the max on s.techs. as far as camber kits, i did not need one for my set up, just got an alignment a few weeks after install, but even then the alignment was not off that much. you should always take precaution around the speed humps, but even more so now that you have it lowered especially with the stillen kit- you should be fine and make the clearance though, i have an ae max , and i go over the speed bumps with no scraping, it clears just fine although the stillen kit makes the car look a bit lower than the ae kit! good luck i think you will be fine with s.techs,19's, and stillen kit - and for strut/shocks it all depends what type of ride you like - if you prefer a much smoother ride, go with adjustables as the illumina's / agx (maybe) - but if you like bouncin around and feeling every groove in the road , go with gr2's/ tokico blues- good luck
thanks fellas
I'm gonna put my springs on this weekend and go from there, if a strut breaks or the ride is too rough I'll get illuminas. I know the illuminas have settings for ride quality, but that doesn't change height, right? The adjustability is only for firm or soft correct? Also, people have said DO NOT cut the dust boots and others say cut 1/4", 1", 2", what's the deal? Is that because they have stock struts?
Thanks for all your help. I'll update pics this weekend too.
