They may not have enough tension, or one of the pulleys is not happy.

i was getting intermittent belt squeal at low rpms, low gear. spraying WD40 on the main bolt of the A/C idler pully assembly has totally resolved the matter. This is the adjustable belt tension unit located on the top loop of the outer, or main serpentine belt.

that's actually not a bad idea, but temporary since WD40 doesn't last very long in terms of a lubricant. The tensioner pully has a crappy bearing in it, and mine even seized one night. The bearing retainer broke, all the bearings slammed into one another, and the belt slid around the pulley until it melted and snapped. Your best bet is to find a place that sells bearings and get a new one. They are cheap, and are easy to press back into the pulley. usually just a snap-ring holds them in.

Belt could also be loose like stated before.

a brand new idler assembly is around $50, why fool around with bearings.

do you need to loosen the main pulley bolt or just turn the upper tightener?

Loosen the main pulley nut. (14mm), then rotate the upper tensioner, retighten main pulley nut. Very easy to do from engine compartment, should just take a few minutes.

...because I'm an engineer and like to take things apart to fix them. Plus it's either a $50 new idler that's not necessary...or an $8 sealed bearing that will last a long time.
