URGENT!!!! Clicking when starting.... runs fine after jump
Ok guys got a problem with the max. When I go to start it up all I get is a clicking noise but if do it for a while it will eventually start up. Or if I get it jumped it will start right up too.... and once started it runs great no light no problems. Turn the car off and go to turn it back on jus clicing again... idk if it's a battery issue or what any help would be great
Most likely, starter (solenoid) is on it's way out. Replace the starter.
But first, check your battery voltage prior to start up, and observe battery voltage during startup. If battery voltage gets too low (and hence not enough juice going to starter), car won't start either.

Always check battery first. If on own battery it just clicks but starts right up if jumped, then it is pretty sure your battery does not have enough juicy to energize starter solenoid, so either get battery fully charged or take the battery out to autozone to have them tested. Also, if you have multimeter, measure the voltage first, after start, measure the voltage again, it should read some where between 14.2 and 14.8 volt if alternator is working.
There are two kinds of clicking. A continuous fast clicking and a single click. Continuous fast clicking is generally caused by low voltage not being able to keep the hold-in windings of the starter solenoid energized. Solenoid then returns to rest where the pull-in windings are again energized and the cycle repeats itself. With this type of failure it can be a low battery, bad connections, or a bad solenoid. In this scenario if it were the cables or solenoid then jumping would have no effect, as the voltage drop is between the battery and the starter.
Bottom line is, get a voltmeter and check battery and voltage drop on cables. Or start buying parts until its better.

your probably overthinking the problem like i did...heres my thread from a year ago: https://maxima.org/forums/4th-genera...s-problem.html
Check the battery voltage with key off. If good;
Check the battery voltage with engine on. If good;
Check the battery voltage with engine on and all accessories + headlights on. If good;
Check voltage at the starter with key off.
Having completed these simple tests, you'll have found your issue.
