I just replaced the transmission with a used one. The car will start in Park. When I put the car in reverse nothing happens, same with neutral. When i put the car in drive in goes in reverse. It will go forward if i put it all the way down in 1st. oh and sometimes neutral is reverse. Im lost. please help

 

You probably need to adjust the cable that goes from the shift lever to the gear selector switch on the transmission. It is possible the switch is bad, but more likely you just need to adjust the cable.

Do the Inhibitor Switch adjustment on page AT-188 and the Control Cable Adjustment on page AT-189.

Thanks Dennis. Made me recheck things in the linkage. Found the that the pin inside on the manual shaft holding the manual plate in place was broken. It worries me a bit how that retaining pin broke but now to just get it out to replace it
