My 2001 Maxima SE 3.0 A/T acts really weird.

Besides the P0430 (bad precat code), it idles rough a minute into the cold start but drives fine after that. After driving 30m - an hour later, I feel the car fighting against my braking during red lights. When I put it into neutral or park, the idle climbs and holds at a steady 2000 rpm.

I typically restart the car and the issue subsides for like 30m before coming back.


Any thoughts?

 

If it's fighting the braking that means your fully off the throttle. With the throttle closed you should not be idling that high. That means there could be a vacuum leak from the throttle body to the lower intake manifold. Check for dry rotted vacuum hoses or disconnected ones.

 

mechanic already sprayed brake cleaner throughout the engine bay to check for leaks. None found.
