Upper Oil Pan Seals

Hello everyone,

I currently have my upper oil pan dropped for leak repairs. As of right now I cannot continue with the repair bc the oil pump inlet/outlet o-rings (#15066-ZL80B ) from Nissan do not fit in the grooves.. Actually the hole nearest to drivers side fits but the other one's too big. The old o-rings have a flat design as to the new ones are round. Also can i hack off the two dowels locking the upper oil pan in? Its making the re-assemble process a bit difficult and i don't want to ruin my RTV bead.. With the dowels gone it looks as though I can simply raise the pan into position, press in and bolt in.. With the dowels it's a tight fit and i'd have to use a hammer to tap it flush.. Hope that makes sense.

Thx

Hacking dowel pins is not the answer.

I don't know the trick to getting the UOP in as your describe but I'm sure someone else will.

Same with the o-rings...let us know what part numbers you come up with.

The old Old rings are flat from being compressed for many years. Mine were all flat when I removed them. I replaced them with new round o-rings.

I'm not getting a hit on part number 15055-ZL80B. It comes back as 15066-ZL80B.

On the last job, I ordered a Fel-Pro kit that came with half moons, some black permatex, and the o-rings. Basically everything you need in terms of seals and o-rings. So we went to the dealer and picked up some Nissan o-rings because I could not see the Fel-Pro o-rings in the box until it was time to install the parts. It turned out the Fel-Pro o-rings had a better fit, so we used those.

Big thanks to CS_R!

If your removing your upper oil pan make sure to get the Fel-Pro Oil Pan Set (#OS 30696).
It includes the front and rear half moon seals AND the two o-rings needed for the oil pump inlet/outlet passage.
Also includes Fel-Pro Black RTV for a total of $15.
You can find these @ Advance Auto or O Reilly's..
Here's an ebay link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Engine-Oil-...53.m1438.l2649

***If your buying this kit online the ad and picture of the product does not show or mention ANYTHING about these o-rings. But they are there. AND THEY FIT!***

I have also purchased the o-rings (15066-ZL80B) directly from Nissan and they do not fit. Cost me $15.
The half moon seals are pricey too. Trans side $27 and pulley side $15.

Thanks again CS_R!

Great job Skywalker85! This is the kind of information that help us keep these old cars running.

Hacking off dowel pins is pretty stupid!!! If you wanna make it easy as hell buy some 6mm (I think those 1.25 pitch thread) bolts than are at least 2-2.5" long.... Hack the hex heads off and use them as guide pins to perfectly locate the upper oil pan with ease and precision! You will need 2 of them...
Apparently you don't have a clue why you have dowel pins?

I never had an issue lining the upper pan. The issue I had was once lined up pressing the upper pan into the block bc the two dowels were too tight going into their matching holes.
What I ended up doing is lightly sanding the corrosion of the dowels and mating holes. This allowed me to press the upper pan into the block with ease.

But yes hacking the dowels was a stupid idea.

Not Sure I only worked one the heads of a few Toyota V6's....Never worked on the bottom end to see how the oil pan or pans were configured...
