Is Quick Strut aftermarket or OEM part? Poor quality
I had my front suspension replaced and had all sort of poor quality issues after that. I was able to take a look under the car today and noticed the struts label said Quick Struts, picture below.
on the invoice it says this.
im wondering, shouldn’t the dealership install oem parts only? Unless this is a OEM part and just doesn’t have any Nissan label/part number on it. Any help would be nice to understand if dealership is ripping me off here.
Those part numbers are Monroe and can be had for as little as $100-$125 each through online retailers. Lots of people complain about aftermarket quick struts.
Did they not explain the situation and give you options? You needed springs. Were the struts and mounts junk too?
So is the dealership allowed to install after market parts? What’s the point of going to them if they don’t even supply the oem stuff?
So basically one side spring broke (just turning full circle in parking lot, no bump or high impact) and I went them and they said it’s actually cheaper to replace the whole assembly as compared to just the springs. I figured if it’s cheaper to get a new suspension system at lower cost, then I might as well do that. So I went for it. I didn’t think they were going to put aftermarket.
i did go back a few times complaining the ride quality is not as refined as before…even tho technically that was an older part before. They kept telling me this is what they put in all their cars now and it’s an upgraded version of the suspension I had on the car before.
just wish it would be better quality, really Disappointed with their lack of quality service
I would think they would install NIssan's Value Advantage strut kit. They have grey springs.
Part numbers are E4C02-4RC2PNW and E4C03-4RC2PNW. The thing is, they may not be any better than the Monroe. It's cheap aftermarket, not anywhere near original quality. The original suspension is tuned specifically, aftermarket is one size fits all.
Springs are about $235 each. Maybe labor to take apart your old and replace only the springs would have made it more. I highly doubt it. If I'm reading that price correctly, they charged 3 hours. That's too long for 2 quick struts.
Now if they replaced ALL the parts with original parts, then each side would be over $550 in parts ($1100 total) plus labor. They didn't exactly lie to you in that scenario.
two quick questions;
1- so if I’m understanding it correctly, they should have installed the Nissan value advantage at the very least? If not, they should have replaced with the original quality suspension that comes with the car from factory?
2- do you think there is merit in going back to the dealership and getting them to replace it again with one of the above mentioned suspension options? (I doubt they will do it but just wondering if it’s worth it)
monroe is junk but thats what you got. nissan value advantage isnt much better.
im bored so i went ahead and quoted OE nissan parts for what you got installed there. everything included with the quick-strut except for the mounting hardware to body and knuckle.
in my shop you would be looking at 3512.55 out the door. this is assuming theres no rust so i wouldnt be adding addl labor to deal with it. considering the RO says springs broke....its rusty and you would be paying accordingly.
the same job they did but using KYB assemblies (i will never install monroe) is 1756.16
