Future buyer...HELP!

Alright I'm looking into the NX wet single stage 50 shot for my 2001 SE. What do I need in preparation for it? I've already searched around these forums and online, and so far all I know is I need colder copper spark plugs, and possibly a drill for the installation. Can anyone clarify this? How many steps colder will I need? Apparently there are spark plugs that are "pre-gapped," and then there are those that you have to gap yourself. What should my gap be? How do I gap it, if need be? Am I completely off? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Sorry, couple more questions: The 50 shot gives you 50 more horsepower. Is that at the wheels? Finally, does anyone know if I can order this kit from Advance Auto or PepBoys? (They're the only places really nearby.)

I found some helpful info on both NOS and Nitrous Express websites. It tells you all the details about gaping the plugs and how many steps colder they should be. You will find it useful as long as you understand all that.
I am considering the same thing as you.

Really...I didn't check the FAQs on the NOS site, but there isn't anything (detailed) on the subject on the NX site. Thanks--I'll check. I'd still rather have it from someone who's actually done it though...

Except I've read all the threads, Nitrous FAQs, and posts on spark plugs. If you get this question every week, you should be able to answer it then, right? Thanks for all your help.

Maciek

I spent the better part of 2 hours reading all the FAQs and technical info and help and all that on NOS's website, and learned only one thing--that I should get one step colder spark plugs, gapped at .030" - .035" Since I'll probably upgrade, I plan on gapping them at .033, probably .032. That helped, but barely at all--didn't answer 90% of the questions I posted. Thanks for your help though--if you find anything more, please let me know. Keep the helpful advice coming!

There is a dude named Jime. He is from Canada, and from reading his posts I think he has tremendous knowledge about the subject. His nitro max runs 12s (without turbo or supercharger) with an auto!
If you get any advice from him, it should be a good one.

Otherwise, to the frequent fliers of the Nitrous Forum: I understand that it may get a little annoying to hear the same question over and over, but you have to understand that some of us do read FAQs before posting and the reason we post is because it didn't answer our question.
So have some patience. Not all of us are natural born mechanics and what you find obvious, may take a few approaches to be understood by others.
We just wanna be like you guys .

I am with Turismo. I totally get the principles of Nitrous, but still are a little fuzzy on the details like the spark plugs, fuel system requirements and what gauges are neccessary etc.

Turismo,
ZEX has a pretty cool kit. It has a management unit that shoots the nitrous automaticaly when you hit open throttle. And it shuts it off then you let off the gas. The only switch you have is the arming one.
I saw it for around $550 on ebay.

To prepare you really need to read read and read. The more knowledgeable you are before you start the better. Better yet make friends with someone who is running it and hopefully get him to help you with the install most guys are pretty eager to help guys who need it.

I run two step colder plugs even with small shots and N/A, works very well. However, some people say they lose power N/A with the colder plugs. Try it and make your own assumptions. As far as gapping I run mine at .035", most come pre-gapped and .044, you need a gapping tool to measure and set them, pretty easy to do and any auto parts place will sell you one and show you how to use it.

You definately need a drill to do the install, plus a bunch of wrenches and sockets are helpful, as well as wire stripping, crimping tool etc pretty much the same as you would need to hook up audio equipment.

I use an Exhaust Temp Gauge (EGT) and fuel pressure gauge. They aren't as necessary as they are with a dry kit because they run at higher fuel pressures and aren't just automatically tuned like the wet kit is. A fuel safety switch is also a nice addon and much cheaper than an electric fuel pressure gauge if you are strapped for cash. Better to have both but its better than nothing and not very expensive.

As far as HP, NX is at the wheels and is guaranteed to be within 2% of that rating.

Not sure the best place to buy, they are guys on the org that sell, also group buys and Ebay. I got mine directly from NX, they have a great tech line as well for any questions even if you don't own a kit.

If you have a 5 speed you may also want a window switch.

Good Luck
Jim

Do a search for spark plug gap here in the nitrous forum. NX recommends two step colder plugs. I would check with some of the fifth gen guys as the spark plugs may be different(length) and they use different plugs than us 4th gen guys.

Good rule is to always check the gap (even pregapped).

Good point on the plugs I forgot to check his car. I think you are ok with the same plugs as the 4th gen with the 2001 but not too sure. 2002 definately not.
Check to see what your standard plugs are if they are PFR5G-11 then you are ok with the copper plugs. If not there are no copper substitutes.
