My Nitrous Experience

Just wanted to share my experience with everyone on here concerning running nitrous in my AUTO 96 Maxima GXE with 117K miles.

I first got the idea when I came on here and found out that the maxima block (VQ30DE) is a pretty dam well build engine that can take a hell of alot of pounding, including a 150 wet shot without much consequence. So I decided to try it out and borrowed spare 5lb bottle and dry-shot lines from a nitrous guru buddy of mine. I then tracked down another friend who had an extra fuel solenoid laying around and borrowed that from him. I then hooked up all the wiring to an arming switch and from there to a momentary "go" button that I could just hold in my hand while driving and ran the ground wire from the solenoid to some random screw I found in the engine bay.

The feed line from the solenoid I ran through a hole I drilled under the passenger's seat of the car and zip-tied the line safely all long so nothing sagged or got in the way of any moving parts. For the nozzle I decided to go PO' BOYS style and ran it up into the air-box from the bottom plastic tube that can be disconnected and drilled it right into the FRAM air-filter to avoid drilling the plastic intake plumbing. I set the first NOS dry pill to .35 (approximately a 70hp dry shot) filled up the tank half-way with 93 octane fuel and added a full bottle of STP Octane Booster to be on the safe side. Went for my first test-run after test-spraying the nozzle into the atmosphere to make sure the solenoid didn't stick.

I ran my buddy's 03 MACH 1 which had 290hp stock plus a cold-air intake, 4.30 gears, built rear-end, weld-in Magnaflow mufflers, and aluminum drive-shaft. Average ET on that car was 12.5-12.7 on any given day. We went from a 30mph roll with me on the gas and I held him off all the way up to 100mph with me having the jump from the start. Then we went on the 3rd honk and he pulled me in 3rd by about a car.

The next day felt adventurous and put in the .43 pill that I had laying around (approximately 83hp dry shot) and took on my buddy again from the same 30mph roll. From the 3rd honk I stayed half a car ahead of him all the way up to 95mph and then he pulled ahead by 1/2 a car around 110mph... by then my bottle pressure was dropping becaus the bottle was getting cold. We then raced heads up with me having 2 and the move and it was a nose to nose race at the 1/4 mile mark. In my opinion I actually won by a fender. After those 3 runs my brakes were pretty much on fire so we went to McDonalds and ate to let the cars cool-off a bit.

In conclusion the MAXIMA responds very well to Nitrous and it went from a being a 15.7 quarter mile car to somewhere around a 13.2-13.5 car with just an 80hp dry-shot. Hope this inspires some of you to stop with the show and invest in some go because I would have spent no more than $120 for the kit listed above. (Bottle, main feed line, nozzle + 2ft line, "go-bottle-go" button) And its good for beating unsuspecting LS1 owners (Camaros and C5 vettes) from low rolls. LS1 top-end OWNZ but not if you have a maxima with a 100 shot

good luck everyone
