So, after 319000+ miles of driving my 02 Maxima on the East Coast and across US to California, my engine has finally decided to kick the bucket. I took it in to Nissan for replace the Bank 1 Cat converter and I think the mechanics there ****ed up my engine. The body was well maintained and some mods were done to it. 350z wheels, Eiback Springs, Koni yellows, and more. The car looks mean and I dont want to easily get rid of it as it still seems to be in decent condition. So I am in the market for another entire engine assembly installed and my budget is around 3,000. I could buy another Maxima as I recently saw a 6 speed on craigslist for 6k but I somehow dont want to simply get rid of current Max due to mods and stuff. So, does anyone know any reputable and reliable place in Northern California the sells entire engine assembly? I am looking at LKQ at the moment because of their warranty but their engines have high mileage. I am thinking something in the early 100s

 

There's many different options I'm sure but I know there's at least one place in California that sells zero mile reconditioned motors on eBay. I see their posts all the time. They'll even install. Let me find a link for you check back.

I'll keep saying it, 5.7 swap the only thing worth doing.

Your route needs a 6th gen engine with timing chain/guides replaced and gut or throwaway those worthless precats.

 

the 5.7 swap is a 6th gen block right?

 

Technically, the blocks are all the same :P The heads are different.
5.7 swap would be the 09+ maxima or 07+ altima, etc.

I'm not sure if there's a thread that has a step by step guide on what exactly needs to be done for a 5.7 swap. Just an in order step by step without any clutter. From things I've read one thread says one thing then another thread says something else. So I think it's a little confusing to people including me. When it first started I remember reading about needing to grind stuff and cut this. So maybe if there was a clear set of directions all in one spot people would do it more. Maybe like your tensioner/water pump thread. 👍👍

Darren was going post a how-to without all the clutter, but idk what happened. I have most of it in my thread. If you read mine, then you have a very good idea of what you need to do. It's only missing a couple things. I can help anyone that wants to do it, over phone if necessary.

I've never seen one much over 200 with original precats. Shows how easy hwy mileage is on stuff.

 

yeah it is ive seen a couple with over 260k. But the engine breathes better doing highway speeds.

It's never too late until you're burning an asston of oil. You've just been lucky or taking it easy on her.

 

yea i got lucky, i got to gut mine at 180k, when i got my originals off the car the elements were in tact. so hopefully no particales or shrapnel.

 

Previous and original owner was an old lady so yes I'm sure she wasn't ******* it out, but like I said hopefully I'll have the time this week to take care of it. Sounds like a ***** but ya, wish me luck

 

worst part is removal of 15 year old bolts and exhaust,

gutting is under an hour of work, just get a nice drill (corded) and 18" spade drill bit

 

Is it not dangerous to gut one and leave the other?

 

both have same problem though, one is just slightly harder to get it.

 

Man, if 3k is your limit, then get an 09 and manage it with a Haltech. That be bad a$$.

 

 

I'm a the same place with my 03. She has 230K starting to burn oil and i have a P300 in the ecu that i can't seem to get rid of. I like the car and am willing to put some money in to her to get her right.
