Does anyone have a write-up for the Apexi S-AFC II Install?

Ok, let me get this straight for the last time, the black wire is connected 1 cm from the brown wire, no more no less than 1 cm?

I just recieved my SAFC II, in one of the manuals there is a pic of our ECU map for a VQ30DE and the pinouts are different, which one should I go along with??
Actually, only the MAF, Ground and the Knock are in different locations.

I'd suggest going with the pinout that you saw earlier on this forum : it's specific to our cars as opposed to the japanese equivalent in another continent hehe

Actually, I went with the manual since I didn't get a respond as soon as I would like (no ones fault) but it actually worked also. Every pinout gave me a correct signal so it works, thanks for you guys' help.

Any updates?

I'm going to be installing an S-AFC II with the Rev-speed Meter. Just wondering what everyone did and how it's working out for you guys. I was thinking about just running the S-AFC bypassed to detect for knocks...then get all the power mods done and dyno tune.

That would be good if the knock sensor detector worked but it doesn't. I have tried it on 2 different cars now and it does give a reading alright just not one that makes any sense or that you can rely on. Mine just starts out low and continues to climb and then peaks out after about an hour of driving.

According the the DSM guys it will only work on OBDI cars not OBDII.

My 95 was made in 03/94 and it is OBDII. I have heard a couple of people talk about 95's with OBDI but I have never seen proof that they exist.

Its easy to check just look at the OBD connector, the 95-96 is on the pass side behind the ECU cover, the other years are under the dash on the drivers side.

Are you sure? I just scanned my cousins 96 maxima last week, and his connector was under the drivers dash like my 97. now i didnt check the passenger side for ANOTHER connector, but there was definately one under the drivers side, and it worked.

Also, no one had any luck with the knock sensor huh? I guess the AFC2 is only gonna be good for a few more tuning points.. =/

Re: ECU diagrams - highly recommend the $20 one-day subscription to nissan techinfo.

Download full factory service manual and TSBs. Wish I'd done it sooner. Makes Haynes look like a joke. Link should go into stickies; everybody should downlaod theirs!

Installing the safc requires patience and some soldering skill. Using a soldering iron with a small tip will help, since you will be working in a spaghetti bowl mess of small wires. Before you solder, check, double check, and then check again that you have the right wire. It will save a lot of grief later on to do it right the first time.

I would just tap the wires first and run the car like that for a while to make sure the unit is working properly, then go back and solder.

Hey guys, how the hell are you able to soiler the wires in such a tight area?
I looked at removing the harness or ecu for more room but it didnt look easy.

Is there are way to remove the harness or extend it out alittle ?

My advice is to unbolt the ecu plug. There is a 10mm bolt holding it in place. It will let you get more access to the wires. Open the passenger door wide open and stick your top half inside the car. Have fun!
