500 hp = blown block

vq30's and vq35's use open deck blocks. Nissan did testing on the engine to see how far it could be pushed (beforeteh release of the 350Z) and the block failed at about 525 hp. I love the VQ35 for everything it is, but know what its not.
Sorry.

It was in an article on www.freshalloy.com It was about the VQ30DET's they were sticking in Skylines for racing in Japan. By someones translation (it was in Japanese) they reached 500hp when the block failed. The VQ30DET supposedly produced better tq, and since its lighter than the RB25, provided better weight distribution for the track racing they do.

Well, I suppose that's why people invented block decks ... to help with this problem. I'll be finding out in the next few months! I'll either be sleeving mine or decking it .... or maybe both!

Woops

*-To tell, the truth, I meant to post this not as a thread, but a reply to another regarding the comparison to turbo'd BMW I-6's and VQ's. Woops. But it is good to know for boost maniacs.

*-And no, my car does not make that, my $ is currently going into getting some body work done as long as its in the shop (getting fixed after some F#*% smashed into me and took off.)

*-I waiting on a turbo for the VQ35 if anyone has solved the fuel return line problem...

Re: Woops

That is easy just get a TEC 3 with MSD 50lb/hr injectors and that would solve the problem easy. http://www.electromotive-inc.com/products/tec3.html

Then the question needs to be asked - how long can a VQ Block running 400hp last?
