Question about bolts on the flywheel.. do you need all of them?? :wall:

He most likely put the bolt on the airgun socket and tried to start it in there NASCAR pitstop style. He should have hand threaded it most of the way and then just used the gun to get it up to the approx specs. Then verify with a torque wrench.

Exactly why I don't use impact/air tools to tighten stuff...too much potential for damage.

how are those clear corners holding up for you, proving reliable?

You don't read so good do you?????
you missed my post where I said the bolts were started by HAND
justin.. I'll get ahold of you tomorrow... and if the helicoil WON'T work... I was thinking the next size up bolt and forcing it into the hole???
Or MAYBE tapping the FORGED CRANK won't be as bad as I think...
This sucks goat nut$

I "think" ... honestly I do not know....
but I tightened all of them with a ratchet and then with the air gun.
I may have done it. Sometimes I think "goodntight" or "the tighter the better" sometimes.
I never thought about checking it before hand.
Although after this I will.
Lesson #212 in doing a motor swap..lol
It just really sucks. I have less than 2 days work remaining and this happened.
My car WOULD be running, if the motor works, by sunday at the latest. Now I have to go into work like a dog mode to try and get it done.
But I have thursday and friday and sunday so I may make it.
Again thanks fo rhte helicoil suggestion

Dude...just forget it. I'm not in the mood to explain the whole thing...just re-read his posts. And the 3/8" ratchets that were there when I was there would not yield 95 ft/lbs TQ because they have a short handle (fulcrum, leverage)...
Right...

got the tranny off and looked at the threads...
about 1/4 inch of the begining of the threads is gone.. it's smooth..
BUT from what I can tel the rest of the threads are good..
Only about 3/4 threads stick into the crank leaving almost a 1/2 inch of hole.
I was thinking of putting longer bolts in ALL 8 holes ..
what do yall think?????

1/4" of the beginning of just the stripped one is smooth, or all 8 for the first 1/4" are smooth?
I wonder why they didn't use longer bolts to begin with.
Longer bolts will work fine as long as there is no kind of obstruction at all...

sorry justin, Just the 1 hole has 1/4 of the begining stripped.
That's what I thought as well.
Being that I want to keep a balanced load, changing 1 would make it unbalanced.
So I'll get 8 new bolts tomorrow... IF I am lucky the car will be almost done tomorrow.
Call me whenever your coming by. I plan on being there early and satying late...
no rest for the wicked
