!Urgent! In the middle of changing the SC pulley!Urgent!

Guys,

I could really use your help right now. My SC showed up the other day. I'm in the process of changing the pulley from the 3.6 to the 3.25. I got the mounting plate off (after turning my allen wrench into a twizzler) and have the bolt off that hold the pulley on. Now I'm stumped. What do I do now???

The pulley should just pull off but it doesn't. It appears that there is a small metal square in the notch of the pulley and the SC shaft acting as a wedge??

A quick response would be much appreciated.

James

You need a Pully puller or a rubber mallot from the rear of it....that little wegde thing, isnt a lock in there, it acts like a key, DO NOT LOSE THAT

Jim, have your friend (I suggest ptatohed ) pin the snail to the ground with all his might while you use two crow bars wrapped in cloth and a block of wood or two for leverage and use all your might to pop it off. Oh...wait...that's what you did....nevermind.

Use only the pulley puller tool! Do not try to use any other method or else you'll hurt the blower bearings (speaking from experience).

Thanks for the input guys

From what I've heard, the pulley should come right off once the bolt is removed. That was the case for Ptatohed this weekend, but not for me. LOL

Ptatohed and I finally got my pulley off. Just like Ptatohed said, it took two crow bars, some blocks of wood, and a medium amount of force to get the pulley free. There was a small residue of glue left behind. I think Stillen glued it when they put it back together after Vortech polished the snail. It also seemed like Stillen used a bottle of threadlocker blue on each bolt holding the snail to the mounting plate! We twisted two allen wrenches and made them look like twizzlers! LOL When we took Ptatoheds plate and pulley off, there were no signs of glue or threadlocker blue. (But, Ptatohed snapped one of my allen wrenches trying to break the tension off his pulley bolt)

When you guys changed your pulley, was there threadlocker blue on your bolts that hold the snail to the plate? Thanks for the input guys.

There was with mine, and a lot of it, too. The pulley bolt had so much that I had to drill the pulley bolt out, it was in so tight.

like i told you over pm, use antiseize for those and torque them to spec. when removing the snail it makes it a whole lot easier.

I just hope you don't get the "marbles-in-a-can" noise like I have now.

Oh boy, now you have me worried. We'll see in a couple more days when the install is done.

I tried WD-40 and several methods, short of using a torch to loosen the pulley. It was just frozen on the spindle. I even tapped it a few times with a hammer but no luck. Once I picked up a pulley puller it was freakin easy. I suspect my attempts to free the pulley may have buggered up the bearings and thus the extra noise I get. It only shows up when I'm at a light and the rpms drop to 650-ish.
