Streetzlegend goes to the darkside (3.5!)

So yea, It has been done. Last night I completed my 3.5 swap, it started with my original 3.0de having bad rings possibly due to the large amount of smoke out the valve covers. bought a dek, it was broken (as i posted on n/a forum), and finally said, F it and looked for a 3.5, found one right away for $700, 25k miles (verified on carfax), 2004 Maxima engine.

Here is vid clip of the initial start up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bfNPec3RAE .

Basically, im using the 3.0 equipment, with the dek oil pans, left the engine stock, as far as internals and head gasket, using stephen max's cam adapter/spacers, along with an adapter to use my 3.0 TB (and yes i will upgrade later). right now i have the stock 04 injectors on there, maybe tomorrow or monday i will be putting in 440's.

Also, I still have my turbo setup hooked up
I upgrade my turbo to an HX35 (bought brand new), so as soon as i put in the injectors, ohhhh boyyy! Auto+Turbo+3.5 =

im coming after the nitrous boys jime and grey99! lol

First impressions. drove it around. feels really smooth, not hesitations or misfires, runs awesome. I have only gone WOT in 1st gear (I havent lowerd the 3.0's boost yet lol so i dont wanna hurt a fresh motor already), in 1st gear, i rolled into WOT, and right at about 4k that thing wakes the hell up spinning all over the place, the most i saw was like 1 or 2 psi, which was basically almost n/a power going to the ground. also, from a stop, i stepped on it hard, spun like crazy (on the 3.0 it would just chirp from a stop). torque is so nice. Here are some pictures and im uploading a 2nd video right now with engine running smooth.

You gotta love those 3.5s don't ya? Way more torque than you would expect....

Congrats dude. Boost+3.5 and spray has gotz to be crazy. Let me know if you need info on clamping the maf and running off the emanage map sensor when you max it out.

running of a map sensor is an alternative to running with a z32 maf or easier/better/only works with EMU??

Hey I wanted to ask you. How did you deal with the idle? In my case, the issue im having is that in order for rpms to be in the 700s or something acceptable, i have to have idle (in neutral and park) above 1k, now theres no problem with that, car drives and everything, the thing i dont like is that, shifting from park to drive or reverse it bangs into gear to hard (like neutral dropping), since the rpm out of gear it soo high. Now if I lower the rpm out of gear when i put it in gear it drops to like 500 which is too low, specially when i turn on the a/c. How did you go about this? im not using an IACV by the way, are you?

Maybe someone else can help you with the idle - I don't use the IACV, even though it's connected to keep the ECU happy. My idle is set for 1,000 because of the cams and with the Edge 2800-stall TC, it's still quite drivable. Best guess is to hook up an IACV and see if you can make it idle.

but it's fun, isn't it ???

Well I havent started having fun yet lol, I still gotta figure out a minor tps issue, its making the auto lock up the TC way to early like at 30mph before it even goes into 4th. Did hooking up the iacv make any change on the idle eventhough u dont really have it hooked up to the car?

Update, i just installed the 440 injectores, I had wired the front three wrong lol, car still ran though but i fixed it anyways. Ran the car at 5psi or so, and man it pulls nice, no tune yet, a/f was in the high 10's, im still on the plugs that came with the motor (they look alright, no major abuse, just the usual normal wear), tomorrow I might go ahead and get 1step colder plugs, and tune it a bit. As for the idle, its not too bad now, I gotta keep driving it, eventually it will fix itself (I remember with the 3.0 i had same issue with 00vi, and it fixed itself, i guess ecu has to go through its learning process etc.., i cleared the learning crap through my obd scanner, so we'll see)

yea i got the suprastick too,

The auto is going to last more than 6months, you do know iv been abusing and putting more than 300whp and torque through the auto for a few years with no issues right? The auto will last as long as you want it too if you know how to treat it.

I knew you would switch over sooner or later. Good job.

But you still hold the title for the messiest engine bay in SoFla.

How long did it take you guys to swap the engine over from start to finish?

Well the whole process was about 1month or more, thats counting getting the dek, finding that it was broken, then finding another engine (3.5), but actual like work, id say 4 to 5 days. One day i took off all the electrical, hoses, radiator, fan, etc.., then 2nd day came back for the bigger things, axle, alternator, compressor, etc.. another day to take out engine, i spent whole day on this one, i was alone but eventually got it out, then eddy came over, helpd me prep the 3.5, put oil pans, then put in the motor, next day, filled it with liquids, make injector connectore, tighten torque converter, etc... id say about a full week total.

Good stuff. No rod bolts at the very least? You can change those with the engine in the car pretty easily. .

My only guess is because the 3.5 fuel pressure is supposed to be at about 51psi at idle.

Don't need them. Power doesnt kill the rod bolts, revs do. And since he's keeping the stock redline there's no point in upgrading those. Stock work just fine up to 7100, so stock redline is no issue.

Not necessary really. Plenty of people run their swaps at lower than that. Personally I've always ran my engine (NA and boost) anywhere from 55-66psi for any number of reason at the time. Mainly to get the most indirect timing advance out of the piggyback

Thanx, another update lol, just put in new spark plugs, 1step colder, also found that the 440cc o rings seem to be leaking, you can see the base where injector meets lower IM wet around. I wonder what o rings would be best.

Also, i got rid of the VIAS, i cut the inside plate off, made the inside surface of the plate completly flat with a grinder, and plugged the hole with a screw and taflon, then grinded off the excess sticking inside.
