Are you going to spray the feed pipe and wrap it? Have you messed with the emanage yet or are you just letting the tuner do all that?

I am the tuner

I am gonna wrap the bpipe all the way to the turbo once i get a new muffler. For now as is. Tomorrow the gauges should be here and then I will be able to up the boost to 5-6psi and then tune. Right now it is SUPER rich, I can get another 20+ hp out of the midrange just from AFR tuning.

Sir just so you know to expect it. This is a BIG *** COMPRESSOR. The higher you go in boost, the higher it will get into it's more efficient part of the compressor map (more power/psi).

On my 3.5, 1st pull at 6psi (pipes still a bit warm) it did 289whp. However, once the pipes got hot, and I did more tuning, and upped the boost to 9psi, the "effer" did 372whp and that was where the MAF maxed out. Look for my old dynos (I think around May or June 08). That thing was still climbing when the 3" MAF on 4th gen sensor just maxed out. Just to give you a reference as to the difference in HP/Psi as you move higher up in the boost with thie turbo.

Also check for exhaust and boost leaks. You are bound to have some and this could be attributing to your late spool up. Not to mention the fact that you still have to wrap the exhaust. Doing that alone not only yields much more power but also drastically decreases spool up time. For me it dropped a good 500-700rpm

Yeah I don't have enough exhaust wrap to wrap it all the way to the turbo yet. I will do that as soon as I can. Today I will up the boost to about 6psi assuming my fuel setup can handle it. I did notice the more I pushed it today the faster it got. So the pipes def need to get wrapped.

I suggest you start wrapping from the engine to the turbo. The key here is to have the exhaust reach the turbo as hot as it is when it comes out of the engine. Which i coruse is physcially impossible but the wrap plays the big roll here

Did you spray and wrap your pipes?

I believe Defi..has a spray that you can either spray onto the pipes or spray onto the wrap it self after it is on, to further help with temps.

I'll see if I can find that old link...

You have too!! the right way of doing it is cleaning the pipe and spraying a good coat on it (I used bbq grill spray, dry's fast and handles heat), then you wrap the pipe, then spray with the silicone spray they offer for the wrap by DEI.

Yea DEI!! I think that will supremely help with temps and spool. Clean, spray, wrap, then spray again.

Found oil in my charge pipe:

One of two things, could be seals are bad which means a bad rebuild
Or I did not leave the pump running long enough after the car was off(now 2 min, was 1:20)

I am getting very mad bout this turbo/oil thing

Dont worry man, its a process. Most likely is that you didnt let the pump run long enough, so oil leaked through the seals into the charge area. clean the pipes closes to the turbo, and drive it for about a week, put the timer at like 2:30min. (hope you have a good battery).

Oiling is the most frustrating part of doing a RMT setup, just be patient. Some troubleshooting and a few beers, and you should end up with a nice setup. put it to you this way, when i had the T04B i used to run the timer at like 3mins minimum. any lower and it will smoke at start up.

So I went to go tune today, shifted from 2-3 at WOT. 3psi of boost. and it goes BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhh

You will never guess what happened!!!! The damn compressor housing blew off the turbo! So I hope there is no damage to the blades but I doubt it. I am gonna put on my other turbo.
What is acceptable shaft play?

Can I use the turbine housing from the "bad" turbo? It already has the wastegate welded shut.

How much will you have to spend to get a new turbo? Just let me know and I will pay for it. I am so sorry for all the issues that you have. That turbo was rebuilt a few weeks before I sold you the kit so I am somewhat confused as to why this happened. The only thing I can think off is that the shop did not balance the turbo properly. Just let me know how much for the new one?

Anything I can do to stop this thing from smoking? How bad will it be if I stop it from getting oil? I just wanna get back to school w/o smoking up the interstate. I don't wanna take it off cuz it will be too loud open muffler.

If you stop oiling it bro it will stop spinning period. It wouldnt take long to completely fry it either. If you can try to limit a little more oil going to it but dont stop it from getting oil.

Since I had that extra turbine housing, I welded one of those roundish electrical box plate covers on the side and used it as a giant flange to connect to the turbo. I put my filter on the front and now I am back to NA. Now im on the hunt for an 18 back of beer and a new turbo.

I will keep you guys updated and show which turbo ima buy before I buy it

Doesnt bolt on to a 4th gen maf, just gotta drill new holes. No biggie, it is really nice and thick so it is worth the 10 bucks.

Engine running strong. Scary **** tho man. Oil feed line broke, leaked all the oil out on the interstate. I had to fix it at a small *** town with 2 gas stations. But I did and the car turned on fine luckily. Man I've been thru hell, makes me wanna keep NA but I am buying a NEW turbo so hopefully that will do it all. I never been thru so much with this car. I am really lucky the engine didn't seize, but it was only for less than 1 min with the oil light on. VQ30 is pretty amazing since most people say it is too late when the oil light comes on
