245/40-18 vs. 235/45-18

I used Dannys tire size calculator and determined that the 245/40-18 was nearly identical in radius, diameter, circumf. & revs/miles as the stock 235/50-17. I went on-line with tirerack.com and the site recommended the 235/45-18 for my 2002 SE. The numbers are close for the 235/45 but not as close as the 245/40's.

Isn't the 245/40's the better fit to keep the speedo and such accurate? Will the 245/40's fit my car? tirerack.com has only 3 choices in the 235/45 size, but has 38 choices in the 245/40 size.

What's the width of your wheels? 18X8? 18X8.5? or 18X7.5? I would go with 245/40/ZR18 if your wheels is bigger than 18X8.

also, are you dropped or not? if not or if you are with a minimal drop, I'd go with 245/45/18....a bit off the calc mark, but more sidewall for bumps and potholes and less wheel gap too
