Just a quick question, I see no one mentioning Hankook's at all. Is there something I am missing here? Do these tires suck or what cause I have heard differently, just wondered why no one has said them.

Federal SS 595 (235/45/17)

They are a little noisy, but they have VERY good Dry and Wet traction on the roads. I havent been able to get the back end to slide at all, these things are glued to the road. Even when its raining, they still perform like theres not even any water on the roads. Affordable tire too.

205/65/15 Yokohama AVS DB S2. I really love the dry and wet traction on these tires. No regrets on these and treadwear is rated high for an ultra high performance tire.

Toyo T1-S. The most amazing wet road tire I have ever experienced. Noise levels are minimal, they stick like glue in the dry, and I have yet to break them loose in the wet. At this point, the car's limits in the wet are a lot higher than mine (though not for long )

They make good tires I heard. I guess it's just not lots of people have them.

sipock97, do you have the LS-V's?? I was thinking about getting these for my Max. How do you like them so far? Are they quiet and do you like the way they handle? Can you feel a lot of the road or has it been smooth sailing for you? I had the Turanza EL's before and then just got Falken 512's about 6 months ago and I think they are the worst tires ever made.

Welcome greatful. I see we share the same distaste for the 512s. I may need your help convincing some of these guys around here that think those are the greatest tire for the money.

My guess it is the LS-Vs since he said they are 225/50R17. I don't believe the EL-41/42 or LS-H is available in that size. By all accounts, poeple who got the LS-Vs swear by them as an excellent all around tire.

Thanks for the warm welcome CCS2k1Max! I completely agree with you. I have read numerous posts about the 512's and that is what originally convinced me to get them. I am unsure as to why anyone would EVER get these tires for their Max. The low price of the tires definately reflects the performance and feel of the tires....cheap. In retospect, I would have paid an extra $20-$40 extra per tire so that I wouldn't hate driving my car so much. I feel every bump, every vibration, and can't effectively corner turns at more than 30 mph. Over the past 3 cars I have owned, I have never been so disappointed in a tire. My advice to anyone that is contemplating buying new tires, don't consider the 512's as an option as you will be disappointed. But that's just my opinion.

CCS2k1Max, what kind of tires are you running on your max?

I ended up finding a set of an 05 Altima steelies and put on Dunlop Winter Sport M3 snows. Far better than any all season tire on snow, but definetely not the best snow tire out there (regardelss of what Mr. Tire.Pro says). That's all I could find late in the season. On the OEM rims I then bought Fuzion ZRis (off spec 235/45R17, summer tire). It rides very rough, follows every groove on the road and is noisy below 40 mph, but it handles razor sharp. The steering response is the way I like it, not like the crapy 512s, and the car is stable on turns, not mushy marshmellow. In any case, the ZRis are far better than the 512s for basically the same amount of money.

Yeah....I put on the LS-V's....I love them. Very good handling on dry and in the rain. We have been getting a lot rain lately and they perform great. I had the potenzas and thought I was driving on ice when it rained. They are quiet which is one of the reasons I got them. I drive about 32 miles one way to work and want a comfortable quiet car.

sipock97, thanks for the info. I have been looking at these tires for a couple of months. Have you had any problems with "cold spots" in your tires. I have heard that the LS-Vs sometimes have issues with cold spots. Also, I am assuming that the sidewalls are fairly stiff, right?

The sidewalls seem pretty stiff. What do you mean by cold spots? I had read another member was impressed with these tires so I though I would give them a try. Glad I did.

I had to purchase some tires to get back and forth to school in, so I got the Goodyear Assurance TripleTred. They've got good all-around traction, but if you're on snow they can be tricky. I'm not sure, but I think I like them better than the Pilot Premacy tires I came from...maybe because of the price difference.

I have heard good things about the LS-Vs also. However some members have claimed that if the tires sit for a while, they will notice that for the first few miles of driving that their tires feel bumpy and uneven. Apparently this is due to the tire developing "cold spots". I am assuming that you have not experienced any of this.

Actually, now that you mentioned it......I have noticed roughness in the morning but I figured it was the road because by the time I get to the main highway I dont feel it anymore. It clears up quick if thats what it is.

I have the Falken ST-01's. The 512's were on back order for 3 months and I needed tires, so these are what I chose. I like the way they look and the grip is awesome. Cool tread pattern. The ride is also soft. A bit noisy, but that's fine by me. They are H rated instead of Z, but I will never drive that fast anyway. A plus is that they have a 50,000 mile warranty on them (I believe that the 512's only have a 30,000 mile warranty).

Just an FYI the falken stz01 is a light truck tire not made for passenger cars...it has a hard casing made for trucks and it will be noisy. Its a common mistake made by tire dealers.

I got Kumho KH11s

I just got Kumho ECSTA KH11 installed today and they're very good. They feel sticky and handling is excellent.
Most importantly I feel very safe braking with these tires. I never felt such control with the OE Bridgestone RE92 - even when they were new.

Just dropped a set of 225/45 Avon tech M550s on my new 18s and luvem so far. Extremely quiet, super stable, very sticky in dry (haven't driven them too much in the wet, yet) and they look great - all for a great price from Tirerack. They actually saved my a$$ the other day when I took an exit ramp way too fast - thought for sure I was going onto the grass, but the fronts dug in, groaned a little and pulled me through without blinking - very stiff sidewall. Didn't even mess up the Armorall on the tire. I was very impressed. They ride a little rough, but 45 series tires on NYC roads are gonna hurt regardless.

For the NYC winter, I kept my stock AE 17s running on Falken 512s. The Falkens are a decent tire, but I had a lot more praise for them before I got the Avons. The Falkens are kinda squishy and noisy and I noticed I was getting a nasty pull to the left just before I switched to the 18s. It kinda scares me to think what would have happened if I had taken that same exit ramp with the Falkens. But I still say for $97 a piece, they are a good deal - just don't expect much.

Aren't the Avon 550's an all season tire?? I believe the 500's are summer tires. Are you really going to put the 512's back on if the 550's are an all season tire?

Yokohama YK 420 215/60/15

any comments on these? although they are all-season tires, they seem to be very poor handling. i'm not sure about wear, though. i'm just curious if anyone can tell me what to expect from these tires at all.

I don't know anything about them but do know that the Yokohama Avid H4S and V4S are very highly rated on tirerack. com and come in 215/60/15, which is also my size. I am considering them as well as BF Goodrich Traction TA tires in H-rated version (also come in a V-rating).

What?? I think you mean that the 500s are summer tires and the 550s are all season, right?
