Just installed Toyo Proxes TPT 225/50/17
Just like the title says, I installed a set of 225/50/17 Toyo Proxes TPT tires yesterday. Seeing as I've driven all of 20 miles on these thing so far...my opinion shouldn't be taken as the end-all, be-all on these tires, but I'm more than willing to update the progress on these things as time goes on for those interested.
I replaced Kumho KH11s worn down beyond the treadwear bars. The KH11s were W rated, these are V rated. The Toyos are definitely more comfortable, smoother-riding tires, but it could also be a function of the prior Kumhos being fairly worn and out of balance.
The Toyos seem to be a little bit louder, though I expect that to decline as I "break-in" the new tires. They also seem a bit sloppier in handling - again - something I expect to change with wear (The tires still have the little rubber hair-like nubs on them).
Wet traction is good, though no better than the KH11s (even when worn). They look nice, which isn't that important, but always pleasing.
So, to summarize, I needed new tires as my last set was past its prime. I needed an all-season performance tire in 225/50/17, readily available, with good wet/dry traction, fairly comfortable, and at a good price. The Proxes TPT fit that bill. (Especially since the Bridgestone Turanza LS-Vs I wanted were backordered everywhere until December)
I ordered them for $129/tire at www.tiresavings.com. Took about 3 days to arrive.
