That sounds about right. Since they're Rays wheels, they are forged (as opposed to OEM wheels, which are cast)....so they should be considerably lighter.

Rim weight doesn't have much effect on gas mileage, and the performance difference is from the stop, not much effect at higher speeds.

you feel a bit of the weight starting from a stop, but once you get rolling the relative weights are not very noticeable. Rpms are just the speed the engine is turning at, which remain constant as long as the overall diameter of the new wheel/tire is the same as the old one.

This isn't the case going from 18s to 19s. The 18s are bulky...the 19s feel whispy (yes...I said whispy. I'm not sure why).

I think they were 5 or 10 bucks from a dealer. Had to be special-ordered.

By "these wheels", are you talking about the 19's? There are a couple of us. Page 8 & 9 of this thread, you'll find pics.

Those 19's look good, guys! That's a little too big for me, though. I'll contribute some photos/reactions whenever I get my 225/45's on my rear 18's...

Dang... really disappointed with the look of the G35 rims on the 5th Gen's. I love them on the actual car though. Oh and one question though. They come in chrome and alloy, right? Most of the pictures posted here must be alloy.

No, they do not come in chrome from Infiniti. Only the ebay knockoffs do.

As to your opinion...well, that's your opinion I suppose . I get nothing but complements, even from G35 owners, on how much better they look on the max than on the G

what exactly don't you like about this look, out of curiosity?

^ Hmmm. I've noticed this. From my searching whenever I bought a set, the 18's come painted and unpainted. 3 of my 4 wheels look dark and "shiny," while 1 seems lighter and more dull than the rest...

Even though you can barely tell in the pic, it's obvious up close and in person.

Hm.. Irish's do look lighter than normal. Jeff's look normal. I've noticed several G35 owners refer to the finish as either "Anthracite" or "Hyperblack." Not really sure which is the 'correct' term for it...

I dropped one of mine over while changing to track wheels earlier this summer and it got all scraped up on the face, plus a couple of the others were curbed up a bit, so I sanded them all down good and smooth, re-painted and clearcoated. The color is just a regular silver....couldn't find a good match to the OEM finish.

you guys are quick

^ Heh, I was reading somewhere a while ago about repairing a G35 18 and the color paint this person used and where he found it.... I'll have to see if I can dig up the link.

@irish, "what exactly don't you like about this look, out of curiosity?" It's just something about the way they look on the max. Maybe it's the angle and or the color of the cars. Not sure what's up because your looks pretty sick. However, I'm not feeling Jeff's for some reason. Irish what size are the ones you have on you car?

The finish that Infiniti uses for it's graphite colored wheels is not just one color. It's a base coat of black and a top coat of a type of silver and then clear. Making spot repairs very difficult.

I was browsing G35driver, and someone else mentioned the same thing about the black underlayer, as he had what he thought could've been tar on his 18's... After a bit of searching, I couldn't find the link about scratch repair, but I think it was someone doing this to a BMW rim, which had a single color under the clear coat. Heh, I was looking at one of my 18's (the off-color one, actually) and it's got scratch marks from hell, as well as a nasty "screwdriver rash" about the size of a nickel. Might buy another 18 someday...

yeah you can see the different coats when you sand it down to metal: 2 different silvers above a layer of black above a layer of what looks like a flat light gray primer....I toyed around trying to duplicate it, but couldn't really get close.

Blackflux,
Mine are the same a Jeff's - 18x8 (the only size that design comes in). They look different on different cars...I personally think they're ugly on G35's

that looks pretty good - any wider shots of the car?

I'm using some regular old long-shank lugs. Whatever you do, don't buy splined lugs....they look cool but will strip after 3 or 4 times with the wheel on and off...

I'm still using the lugs that came with my Max... I could buy some longer ones off ebay, but haven't bothered to yet.

Here are pics of my solara with the wheels on.... Not the greatest pics, and the wheels are just used as stocks when the rims are not on, since they look more aggressive than the original stock wheels.

And here it is with the 20s... again I know it is not a maxima, but you guys inspired me to do it.

I think the G wheels look better on your car than the 20's The curves on the spokes are a good match for the curvy car.

What would work out better in terms of looks with the offset and no rubbing issues. The 19x8" (front) G35C rims all around or the 19x8.5" (rear) all around? This is with the recommended 245/35 tires of course. I'm thinking the 19x8.

yes, on stock suspension they will fit fine. If you're lowered the 245's might rub just a little bit in the back.

6-spoke 17" G35 Sedan wheel on 2002 GXE

Hello,

I got a set of the 6-spoke 17" G35 wheels (mine have 17x7 and 45 stamped on them, so I guess they're 45 offset?) for my 2002 GXE, which has stock 16" wheels with 215/55 16" tires.

Will I have any problems with the dustcaps on the front or back with these wheels?

What size tires should I get? I was thinking of going with 225/50 17" or would 235/45 17" be better? No drop as of yet, but I might consider one in the future. I'd like to not have any rubbing issues.

Thanks for your help!

235/45/17 shouldn't rub, and will keep your speedo the most accurate. 225/50 will be ok, but your speedo will be off more. Neither size should have a problem with a drop (don't quote me on this, though).

The 5th gen SE 17's came stock with 225/50/17. It is a more appropriate size for a 17x7 rim than 235/45/17...though the 225's are harder to find.

So what should we run on the g35 17's?
The one's that I have on my car now are 215/55/17 which are the ones that came with the wheels, are those the best size?

The size tire you should run should be based off your OEM tire size that came with your car, not the optional sizes IMO. So, take me for example. I have a 00 GLE that had 215/55/16 stock. The best size 17" tire would be 235/45/17. Now, if your car came with the 17's (implying you had a SE), then your best size 17" tire would be what you already had: 225/50/17. Try out this.

The exact size you run would be based on several factors... Personal preference, rim diameter and width, cost of alternative sizes, how far off you don't mind your speedo being, etc. For me, I have G35 18's, and the best size is 235/40/18. Instead, I'm using 225/45/18. I'm not lowered or anything, but plan to buy some 235/40/18 next summer (along with some Illumina's and Eibach's).
