And will 255 be enough to not strectch the tire on a 9 wide wheel?

i guess you didn't do your research but to answer your question 9" is more than enough. Most sites that sell tires will tell you what is the recommended size of the rim for the tire

Not sure if you know what I'm asking.

I have a 9" wide wheel. How wide of a tire do I need.

255 was my quess. I would like a tire that is just about flush with the wheel. Not overlapping or stretching.

I never had aftermarket wheels before.

255 is perfect "no stretch" for 9" wide.
