Any one riding on Kumho Ecsta..?

I ran some 712's a few years back.
They were decent tires, but wore quickly, and got noisy around 20k.
Performed well though....I think I got what I paid for -- which is pretty much the market-niche that Kumho owns: Affordable, competent tires that do everything well, and don't last too long.
It all depends on what you're looking for and how much you want to spend.

I just had a set of Kumho Ecsta ASX tires installed this morning (245/45ZR18). For the money they're a great buy. Price matched from Tire Rack at Discount Tire....$630 out the door with lifetime rotation / balance.
I obviously haven't had them long enough to give too much educated feedback, but initial impressions were pretty good....I'll report back in a week or so after I've really put them to the test.

Ecsta Platinum LX
Have about 7.5k mi on V rated Platinum LX's mounted on stock steel rims; went plus "Zero" (stock 205-65-15, plus 225-60-15). Somewhat slippery for first 500-750 mi but stick OK now. VERY smooth and quiet ride.
Kumho rates these as a touring tire, and as such, do not have razors-edge handling but are above average in all categories.
Recently drove home in a typical Northeast winter mix storm. Kept speed between 25-40 mph and my 35 mile commute on unplowed back roads in hilly terrain. The Max pulled through without any slippage at all. Just don't drive like you have AWD with studded Nokian's and you'll be fine.
Very happy with tires. Good value for money paid.

I have Ecsta ASXs on my summer wheels. They're everything I need for the summertime, for mostly easy driving with the occasional spirited moment. They are terrible in snow, but that's why I have my Ultra Grip Ice tires on my steelies. Couldn't live here without 'em.

We bought a set of Kumho Ecsta something or others for the wife's '02 Max. She go a year out of them, JUNK. Not even worth the buy 3 get 1 free promo from Pep Boys. Get some Fusions, excellent tire, crushes Kumho

They were bought September '07 and she drives about 20-22K miles per year, which I realize is above average. I can't actually remember which model they were, but they ended up being a discontinued model, and they were an all season tire, but that doesn't mean they should wear out faster. Although she drove the car, I took meticulous care of the car (mechanically). The front tires wore "funny", yes the alignment was okay, as well as the rest of the front end. After 9 months a huge egg developed on the sidewall, Pep Boys did replace it for free, but it was a different off-brand tire with new tread (of course) and looked silly with 3 other mostly bald tires. The car did see average highway speeds of 70-85 mph daily, then again that really shouldn't have mattered. I say everything in the past tense because the car was involved in a 7 car pile up in the beginning of October '08. Since then, she has been driving my hand-me-down, a '97 Altima w/229K miles on it. I put a set of Fusion HRi's on it close to 30K miles ago, and they show vitually no wear, this car was also driven by me at speeds around 70-75 mph when I drove 90 miles a day to work and back. At $305 OTD, the Fusion is a better tire for the money. Now on the same note, my father just had Ecsta ASX's (I think) installed on my mother's Camary, so far they have no complaints, but she drives it like a granny, and they've only been installed for a few months now.

I think Fuzion is owned by Michelin IIRC. I usually do a bit of research on tirerack before I make the decision. A lot of tires now have 30k-60k mileage warranty now, so maybe you want to check them out.

I had Kumho Ecsta ASX 235/40/18 and got about 30k out of them...not a solid "ALL" season as they are garbage in snow/ice. They do handle well otherwise, esp in the rain. I thought they were relatively quiet, and to boot are a good value for the money. I also liked the sporty look.

I went through 2 sets of SPT, each about 20k. Had 712 and loved those too. I know plenty of people w/ ASX and they're wonderful too.
Here's a 712 I had, drove till it corded.. Weird wearing tho. I ran the fronts at 35 and rears at 38ish. So maybe I overinflated them for some time.
And I don't remember why I had those 2 areas circled...
Agreed w/the others that the ASX and SPT are both loud tires once you wear off the initial rubber. Also, grip goes to slick once you hit the wear bars, so be careful. Both tended to squeel early when taking turns (low G), but they held through curves nicely and break away progressively.

I had 225/45/17 Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s on my OEM 17s for awhile.
-Poor dry roadholding (6.5/10)
-Noisy when warn down
-Good wet roadholding (8/10)
IMO the best budget high performance tires you can get are General Exclaim UHPs.
I ran them for 2 years in 235/40/18 and I was EXTREMELY impressed.
I have Nexen N3000s now and they were really cheap (<$100 / tire) but I got what I paid for and they are crap. Their overall roadholding is HORRIBLE, and in the wet sometimes its scary how little grip they have with <1000km on them.

Sorry to tell you; but you will be buying new tires in about 18 to 20K. Tires were awesome brand new but they just wore out too fast. I drove like a senior citizen for those 20K and rotated every oil change (5K). (Thats 20K I wont get back) I bought some michelins hydroedge. Best tire I have had. 3yrs and 45K later, I still have another 2 - 3 yrs.

Khumo is a good tire. Just remember order the correct tire for what you are using the car for. To many people purchase race tires or speed tires because it is cool. Well when they wear out in one summer it is not so cool.
