I have a 2002 Maxima and and am trading in the 17" wheels for some 18" wheels. After searching, I believe that I want a 40 profile tire, correct?

I want to make sure that the diameter of the new wheel package is no larger than othe old (i.e. don't want rubbing, or speedo problems).

Long story short, 45 profile will not work, am I right???

245-40 seems to be a favorite on an 8 or 8.5" wheel.

What is the offset and width of the wheels and what is your suspension set-up?

 

45 will work...but its supreme bubble gum bubble yum status. 40series IMO is perfect. i ran 245/40/18s when i had my G35 wheels on and loved it...went to 235/40/18...long story short, i traded them wheel/tire for another set of wheels and tires as i wasnt liking how it looked

i dont know if you can see in this pic too well..but thats 245/45/18 tire that was on the G wheels when i first got them



i quickly got rid of them for the 245/40/18 tire....'bubble gum' status is just a term for a high profile tire opposed to a lower profile...my personal terminology.

if i'm correct, i beleive 245/40 corresponds to the factory spec as far as overall diameter to the 17" oem wheel/tire combo

 

tirerack.com gives you the comparison of sizes to make sure you get as close as you can on OEM diameter size.

 

Interesting... Tire rack states that I should go with a 45 profile tire on an 18" wheel to match OEM. Thoughts???

1010tires.com has a good tire calculator that you can compare stock size to any plus size. All you have to do is punch in the sizes you want to compare and it will give you all the info you need. If you are looking for speedo accuracy, a 245/40/18 would be the closest match. Check it out!!

Damn... you are right, and I already ordered the 245/4518 profile tires since Tirerack suggested them as OEM replacements to a 225/50/17. I'll be calling Tirerack today!!

 

Yeah I dont think they always be right cause on a 8.5 they said roll with a 225/45 when everybody else would get the 245/40 I seen a guy on 20's but he had the 235 instead of the 245 and his rim was just out like WTF even a guy at a shop says get the tires width that is flush with the wheels or you will have problems down the road!!
