Fuel pump access

Does anyone done fuel pump replacement because mine just quit at 169k miles and got a whole new assembly unit. Question is how do you access to the fuel pump because I have the factory manual and does not say or show access to rear seat or drop the tank. Can anyone shed light on this? Mine is a 87 Maxima SE and google is useless hoping to find more info before I tackle this job

Here’s the OEM pump I bought. You have to remove the whole back seat. Once you take it out there’s 4 screws to the top of the fuel pump and also a gas line held by a clamp. I had to remove the fuel tank due to the inside being rusted.

Here’s a comparison of a rusted one and one with salt deposits.

oh wow, that is pretty bad, thanks for the clarity and the pics it really help. I am ready to tackle it, however I know there's a tank seal is that seal on the outside of the tank or the big O ring is under the pump module?

as far as i know there should only be a O-ring where the top of the pump meets the tank to prevent vapors from coming out
