Can someone tell me what's wrong ? As soon as I put the car in gear the throttle opens up and if not for standing on the brake the car would take off. It is 1988 Maxima auto trans. Can anyone shed some light on this and tell me how to fix it?

 

No return spring on throttle shaft? Or sticking throttle shaft?

 

This is a long shot, but check the Idle Air Regulator. This provides intake air bypassing the throttle body.
