Nitrous anyone?
Nitrous anyone?
How many of you guys, or gals if there are any, have nitrous on your car? If I can get mine running correctly in stock form, it might be one of the things that I will consider. I have the VE and it runs really well and I don't want to comprimise engine life just for a few kicks. A few questions:
Is it worth it?
How long to install?
What gear do you use it in and when?
How much will I shave off of 1/4 mi time?
Is this going to kill my motor sooner?
How many times can you use it on one 10-15 gallon tank, and how much for a refill?
Just curious everyone, I would probably get a CAI, Y-pipe, and an underdrive pulley first, but I'm sure that will get old after a while. I don't want to fool with turbocharging the max unless someone who knows what they are doing helps me out. I just want to know what the limits of my car are with this motor and reliability. The max is really growing on me!

I would run Nitrous but filling the bottle sucks (paying for it that is, lol).
I'd get some NGK Coppers (BKR6E-11). You wont really compromise engine life as long as you set it up properly (dont lean out).
-Worth it: sure
-How long is the install: how fast do you work?
It's not that bad
-Gear: Any gear, well first would be rather pointless since most of us spin first anyway (5spd), just spray shift spray shift spray hehehehe. Unlike in hollywood, you do not wait until redline then spray, redline is when you stop.
-How much time will it shave: how big of a shot do you want to run, can you get traction, lol. I'd get some sticky tires and just have fun with it. no doubt you will be faster
-Will it kill your motor sooner: Na, just be smart with it. Throwing a 125shot on a stock motor (ie, no fuel upgrades is not a good idea) Your clutch though, you will probably want to look into an aftermarket clutch (however SR20DEN did a ton of runs spraying 125 shot's on his stock clutch. If you dont know who that is, he is the first 5th gen to break into 12's).
-How long can you use it on a 10-15gallon tank: first of all its measured in pounds. IIRC the general number is 1pound = 10 seconds @ a 60 shot.
Intake is a good idea, Y-pipe is a really good idea since your stuffing alot more air into the engine, and a UDP is just fun
. You might want to think about running a test pipe too. I would invest in a aftermarket Fuel Pressure Regulator (DanNY still might be selling his), a Fuel Pressure Gauge, Exhaust Gas Temp gauge, and possiably a wideband O2 if you can afford it. A wet kit is easier and safer to use IMHO. NX makes some really nice kit, Zex is nice in the sense that it does a majority of the thinking for you.

Good info, thanks! I do have a 5 spd and think it might be the original clutch at 130,000, but I'm not sure. I am only looking at a 50-70 shot since it seems like that it what the kitmakers reccommend for our motor. I need to research and find out more about the test pipe, and wideband O2. Thanks.
why does he need an ECU upgrade??
and don't just get any ECU upgrade...if it isn't tuned for nitrous it will have advanced ignition maps and you will most likely detonate and blow your **** up. make sure if you do get a ECU upgrade(which isn't necessary at all)...get a JWT unit TUNED for nitrous, not just the regular JWT tune.
for starters I'd skip the WBO2...all you'll need is an EGT and FP gauge and call it a day.

lets see
JWT = maybe 10whp
50 shot = well somewhere in the realm of 50whp if tuned properly
they cost about the same
i know which one i would get
also my opinion on the gauge issue
since neither the fuel pressure nor EGT gauges measure the Air/fuel ratio directly and the wideband will cost no more i would definitly consider the wideband. it would make tunning a wet kit much much easier although the best would be all 3 gauges
