got an 89 SE today.. some probelms
I just picked up an 89 SE. The owner said 1 fuel injector is bad, so I will be looking to buy one or six of those. The manual transmission requires double clutching when shifting into 1st, and 2nd..but is fine if the rpm is above 2700. Other than that its a pretty good car with some extras.. Borla Exhaust, H&R springs (thanks guys), GR-2s, Greddy Intake, Momo steerting wheel and shift ****, and a nice stereo system. There are 2 things that I wanna fix right away ASAP.
1) Only the drivers side power window works. The owner said that all the other 3 windows went out at the same time. He said that since they all went out at the exact same time, it is a switch that is bad.
Thats right, none of the other 3 work, whether you push the main button on the driver door, or the ones on the other doors. The sunroof works fine..So whats up??
2) The temperature guage on the instrument cluster works SOMETIMES. Other times it just doesnt wake up, just stays cold. But the thermostat works (i think), since the fans turn on, and the upper raditor hose gets hot and hardens up. When the owner test drove the car with me, and I asked him, he knocked on the instrument (speedometer) cluster with his knuckles and the guage shot right up to the middle. I was doing that everytime I drove the car now, and it worked sometimes, but now it doesnt work at all. I guess the cluster is tired of me knocking, so it doesnt want to wake up.
So does the whole cluster need to be changed??? The thermostat was changed last year, but I'll change it again to make sure.
Thats all the questions for now...thanks everyone

another i realized today after changing plugs: when I opened the hood after the car sitting overnight, the upper radiator hose was totally squished, like an empty fire hose. So i figured that is due to overheating. I opened the radiator cap, and turned on the car, and let it run for 10 minutes, the temperature gauge went to the middle on the dash, and no coolant is coming out of the radiator. Its just sitting still as if the car was off. I drove around the block, and opened the cap, and still, the coolant is just sitting there and not "flowing", or spurting out in my face even though the car is warm... So I put my ear near the water pump, and I can hear a sound like "zzzzzzzzzz" every now and then... Fualty water pump??? Kinda weird because I have the receipt of the owner changing the water pump 40k miles ago...

Injectors: you need to take in upper, and perhaps the lower intake manifold off, to access them, also a good time to clean out all of the crap in the intake manifold that the EGR deposited over the years.
Coolant: Might just be excess air in the system, try a flush and fill. The junkyard near my house has gallons of antifreeze that they give away, i think if they werent in business they would pay you to remove it, but free is good enough.
