temperature should be a non-issue.
I've painted VCs before with cheapish spraypaint and they survived just fine.

i had done the intake on my vg with high temp silver and it was fine, spraypaint looks like *** anyway so if it gets messed up it isnt as noticeable, but a mirror finish like his will. i think it'll be fine, obviously the paint on the hood has to take alot of heat abuse from the engine and the sun, i was just curious if mike had used a hight temp clear or something because i had never heard of it.

Na I just used regular clear. I see paint guys spray motors all the time on shows like overhaulin or american hotrod. Now I dont know what kind of clear they use but I havent really heard of a high temp clear or paint (that you mix and paint). Now I am sure there is such a thing but I just havent found it (not that I have researched it though).

Here is a quote from a highly knowledgeable member of a paint board I go to about painting motor parts...

Typically you do not need to use a hi-temp paint for engine parts unless it's on the exhaust side of the engine. For most of your internal areas you can use a bc/cc or SSU which would allow you to make them match the cars exterior and buy in quarts or gallons.

and from another guy...

You don't need high temperature paint for an engine. The hotest the block should get is roughly 220F. Standard paint handles that just fine. I've painted 3-4 small block Fords with BC/CC and they look great after years of use. BC/CC is way more durable and easier to clean than rattle can paint.

Now our block may get hotter than that but I dont think the VC or manifold does.

You are going to hate me but...

needs a sticker on the powervalve

looks awesome Mike!
for the wiring, I've always liked the black mesh stuff with heat shrink.

I hate how once you get one thing shiny and clean you notice everything else that "needs to be".

its easier to remove the sticker and polish than polish around it. Looks cleaner without it anyway .

Yeah I like that mesh stuff too but its hard to find it in black (locally at least). I just keep telling myself this isnt a show car so I dont need to go crazy. I just wanted to do this stuff and it didnt cost me very much to do and actually not much time either. I did re-tape the coil pack wires (top and bottom) because the old tape was messed up but I think that is about the extent I will take it.

How did you polish your power valve and the vacuum rail? It doesn't look like paint. By hand?

polishing wheels and jewelers rouge.

*** edit---I got the wheels and rouge (#3 and #6 I believe) at Lowes in a section that was close to the Dremel stuff. They are not small for Dremels but are made for a bench grinder OR you can buy a bit that works with the wheels and will fit an air die grinder. ***

ITS ALIVE . I finally got it cranked today. Cranked right up for me...it had a lifter tick when I first cranked it but went away after just a little while. My last VE did the same thing because the motor we put in it was sitting for a little while as well. Same place too (right rear) so I wasnt concerned when I heard it.

Now this week I will be focusing on the suspension and next week I will start on the body work and hopefully have it ready in a month or so.

Here are some pics I took the other day with the motor all together to tide you over until I start the body work pics...they arent in the best light and are not much different than the last ones but I am posting them anyway...gotta make the bump a little worth while.

You're doing an awesome job, you should start selling VCs from the junk yard..just restore them and make profit (duh)

I have only had 3rd gens and I am up to 7---89SE-A, 90GXE (the one that started it all), 92GXE, 92SE-5, 93SE-A, 93SE-5, 94GXE. I really need to find a 91 so I will have owned every year 3rd gen made .

In order I got them...90GXE, 93SE-A, 89SE-A, 92GXE, 94GXE, 92SE-5, 93SE-5.

Of course the 89SE-A and 94GXE were parts cars.
