Question: How to install non-OEM fogs/driving?

What low price fog/driving light can I buy (prefereably low profile, rectangular and clear glass lens) to replace the OEM? And how will I install it without rerouting a new wire and switch? I want to keep the original fogs switch.

Ditto!! Including exterior houing, looks like 7"x3.75" unit ought to do the trick...

took me an hour to install mine.
most of that was drilling the holes for the non-self-tapping screws the kit included.

switch is easy. find the two pins that have continuity when the switch is "on".
make sure to use a relay, else you can fry the switch, and stink up the car (done it before on other projects...)

if you have to ask that after the answer he already gave you, then this task is too difficult for you, period. have a shop put them on.

I'm quite sure there is a difference between an answer and a detailed instruction. Since he got his's working, I'd rather ask for specifics, if he doesn't mind, to avoid errors as much as possible.

@BenStoked: Do you have a picture of your fogs?

it's gonna be the same for all cars not just maximas...

you need a power source, a fuse, a relay, and a switch.

control circuit: power source (inside car such as cig lighter wire) -> switch -> relay "coil" -> ground
light circuit: power source (unfused location off battery post) -> fuse -> relay "throw" -> lights -> ground

I'm kinda having an idea of it. Since I got the battery and fogs switch, I just need a new fuse and relay, right? Is it necessary to have a fuse and a relay for each light or just one for both? So can I just cut the original fogs socket or reroute a new wire from the switch itself?

Do you mind posting a front view of your max and your wiring set up? If you can take a picture with both of your headlamps and fogs on, that will be awesome.

one for both is fine, as long as the fuse is rated for enough amps to handle roughly 2x the amperage of both bulbs combined. A=W/V

the stock switch is fine to reuse if you have one.. it may even be wired into the fuseblock already if your car was prewired for fogs (and just missing the relay). Some 3rd gens without fogs already had the wiring behind the dash and only needed to add a stock style blue or green relay into the stock relay socket.. others did not come with the wiring.

Mine is wired, but I need to yank the nasty old lamps that aren't working and replace them... probably just pull out the connectors and put in new ones, throw on new lights and whammo!

It's an SE so it has two fogs that I just removed.

The circuitry is all there, buy fogs and mount them. Connect 2 wires on each side, job is finished. OEM switch and all.

wait... so if the fogs that were on there worked... then all you have to do is attach the wires from the new fogs, to the wires from the old fogs, and you're done.

yea but on an SE it's even easier than that, all he has to do is wire them into the same wires that the stock ones came off of.

my USDM Fed-spec non-Bose 90 GXE did not. But some US-spec GXE's did have wiring, and even rarer, some actually had fogs (2/3 height of the SE fogs). I'm not sure if it's a year thing, or a Bose-or-not thing, or what, that decides which ones got it and which didn't.

My GXE has the wiring and I got an OEM switch to put in the blank spot were the oem fog switch goes. It looks nicer then an ugly after market switch and I like the fogs to work like factory with parking lights/head lights. I did install an after market led style fog light set and wired the hareness separated from oem wiring but wired into fuse block under dash. I can use them without the parking lights/head lamps illuminated. Personally I'd keep the OEM wiring/OEM switch for whatever foggies your hooking up. I'm feeling the Stillen front lip with some Hyper White bulbs in rectangular fog lenses. Eventually I'm going to mod some clear lenses with mini projector fitted into them. This will happen after my Max Stillen ground effect kit is installed and the whole car is wearing fresh paint.

The OEM fogs arent working and destroyed that's why I want to change them. So I'll just cut the connector out, and wire the lights?

that or put spade connectors on the end of the new lights' wiring so you can just push them into the original plug (assuming it was that kind of plug... i never actually saw what one looked like)

I haven't installed any fogs yet but according to the pics, it's installed by the metal thing under the bumper. I want to install my Pilot NV-100Z where the stock fogs were installed. How will I do this? Do I have to drop the bumper?

All I did was cut the stock wire and plug from oem lights. Bought some walmart lights and put the connector on the aftermarket lamps. Installed the mounting hardware and lamps. Plugged the new lights on to the oem connectors and aimed them on the wall.

Did you use self tapping screws?

Yes, drove them in with a screw driver. Lens is cracked pretty bad now on both sides and one is out. Need to replace them with something new.

Do you remember what's the size of the self tap screw that you used?

I had a set of those blue glass ones and they did alright. I now have some that are a pretty close match to stock. $20 at Harbor Freight, sku 37350 "super pick-up lamp" comes in yellow/clear with or without metal guard, and it fits on the inside of the stock brackets.

What do you mean it fits? without drilling? how did you secure the single bolt?
