Ignition switch assembly, starter solenoid, sticky bendix, good quality connections/cables on/to the starter .............. I'd say in that order on our close to 20 year old cars

Mine does that too. Found it to be my starter.

I've had several issues with the wires leading to the starter not making a connection. Give those a check. Might be the issue.

if its a automatic, check your shifter bushing. i had the same thing, wouldnt do anything when i turned the key but if i rocked the car back and forth it would start. shifter bushing prevented it from going into park all the way

if not it sounds like your starter has a bad spot on it

the starter is just a few years old. I'll check the connections tomorrow and the shifter bushing. i hope it's not starter cuz it's like $120.
thanks for the reply guys .

off topic cause i dont wanna make a new thead but im smelling gas when i first turn the car on. i smelled around the engine bay and dont smell any gas. any idea where it could be coming from. anyone had this issue before ?

If it's an aftermarket starter then I wouldn't be surprised if the solenoid is failing already.

theres a rubber hose on the back of the engine by the drivers side thats notorious for leaking gas

shifter bushing is worth a try and its a $3 part from Nissan, just gotta remove the heatshield under the car to replace it

It sounds like a loose fusible link connection (@ poitive battery post) maybe the wire connections are a bit loose fitting.....Also these starters on the 3G seem to be problematic especially after sitting for a while.....

Im blaming the ignition/key assembly, or anywhere between that and the starter wire. (at least for my case) Sometimes mine takes a few trys to start, but sometimes it starts on the first shot. When it doesnt start, i hear the *click* every time i turn the key, so if after a few trys and it still doesnt start, i keep a jumper wire in the door pocket and just pop the hood and hook it to the starter wire and touch the other end to the + batt terminal, and this always starts it. This problem still persists even after i put in a new starter
