Does Place Racing CAI get wet in the rain?

I was driving home from Penn on Sunday night in heavy rain. As I was driving, I heard a "gurgle" type noise coming from under the hood. Naturally of course I freaked out thinking that I got water in the engine bay. I stopped twice at two different gas stations to check the noise....everything sounded normal. Engine reved with no problems. So I continued on my way back to Mass. Again I was drving at about 60 mph because of the low visability and I was getting passed by speeding tractor trailer trucks and they were splashing some serious water onto the front of my car on top of the water already falling from the sky. Again on several occasion that "gurgle" noise came on whenever I accelerated. It would last for a few seconds and then it would go away.

My thing is this...the guy who installed by intake told me that I should not drive it it the rain because it will get wet. I can't see who this is possible. I have a Stillen body kit and the air filter is covered from the bottom, the top, and in the front.

Needless to say I did make it home safely and my engine still sounds and performs normally. Is this something I should worry about or am I just overacting
? Do I really need to move the air filter to the engine bay everytime it rains?

I caught the same rain on Sunday in PA on I84. That was very heavy rain and not normal at all. I had to slow down to 40mph a few time is was so bad.

The filter will get wet, even soaked, but as long as the pipe is not completely submurged you should be ok. A little water mist going into a motor under cruising load wont hurt a thing. It may even help clean out some of the carbon build up on the valves, and combustion chamber etc.

I dont have a cat. convertor and havent gotten a code for it in quite a while. Well Sunday after an hour in that rain I got the code again. I assume that the water and steam cleaned every thing up and the car is running closer to optimum so the ECU can detect that I dont have a cat. I reset the code yesterday and it came back after a few hunderd miles.

So to summarize, dont sweat the rain. Watch for the deep puddles!

A lot of things should be in the FAQ, but aren't.

I guess the moderators are too busy locking stupid threads

if you search for my username and the keyword "hydrolock" you'll find a heated debate about cai and bypass valve.
