CEL goes off when reved, after KS replacement
CEL goes off when reved, after KS replacement
I just changed my knock sensor and I have reset the ECU but I still have a CEL and it is a knock sensor code. The strange thing is that when I rev the car and it reaches about 3800 RPM's the light goes off but comes back on when it gets lower in RPM's. I have heard that you can overtighten the KS and it becomes too sensitive. Is that what I did?? or any other ideas of what could be wrong? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

The knock sensor code is a "ghost" code, so it will not trip the CEL. Were their any other codes tripped besides the knock sensor? Try resetting the CEL again, and drive the car around a bit. This will give the computer time in recognizing the new sensor and adjust to things.

There are no other codes being thrown, but I reset the ECU and drove around a little and the check engine light still goes off when I accelerate and come back on when I let off the gas. Why can't this stuff be simple??

you want simple? stay under 3500rpms. CEL fixed.

how could a maxima owner follow such advice, what code is the CEL giving you when you do the diagnostic? still the KS code?

yeah it still throws a 03 04 code, I haven't tried to clean the grounds yet because I don't have any sandpaper. Do yuo think that could be the problem?

try just altoghter re-installing the sensor. it sounds like a bad install . is it tightened? did you hook up the connector back up?
any other codes showing up?
let us know.
