Door chime w\key in ignition - How to stop it?
#1
I have a 99 SE Limited and wanted to know if anyone has an easy way to stop the ringing chime that goes on when the door is open and the key is in the ignition. This has never bothered me before but today I installed a set of racing pedal covers and wanted to listen to the radio and the chime was ringing in my ear the whole time. Very annoying.
I looked for a fuse for it but couldn't find one.
Any help appreciated.

I took mine out after about 2 hours of hearing it go off.
Its actually mounted on the inside of the large panel that the fuse cover is clipped too. If you look down by where the hood release is, you will see a philips head screw, the other screw is on the opposite side facing the oppsite direction. Then there is 3 clips, one in the upper right corner at the top of the panel (i broke taking off ) and two more near the access hole for the fuses. Once thats off look at the back side of the panel and you will see a small yellow cube with a wire clipped into it. Thats the little bastard!!! Now unclip it and enjoy working in the max with no annoying a$$ beeping.

It worked!!
Using your information as a guide I located the chime. It is a little white box, down low just to the right of the fuse panel. If you are unsure if you got the right box, just put your finger over the hole on the back the you will hear the chime get really quite. Rather than risk breaking the retaining clips on the dash panel I decided to take a close look with a mirror under the dash. Using a little telescoping mirror I visualized the wire harness going to the chime and using the index finger of my left hand through the opening behing the fuse cover, depressed the harness clip. Using my right hand, reaching under the dash, I just pulled the wire off the chime and presto. No more annoying chime, and didn't have to take the dash panel off. Took about 5 minutes. Thanks for your help.
