MEVI vs. 2000 Intake ???
MEVI vs. 2000 Intake ???
The only "major" differences (correct me if I am wrong) between the 4th generation and the 2000 maxima are the exhaust and intake. The difference in horsepower is 37. I just don't see what the difference is between the intake of a 2000 maxima and that of one from the middle east? I am not a mechanic nor would ever claim I could become one but wouldn't it be cheaper to put a 2000 intake on? They use the same block so they can't be entirely different. Just looking for some feedback on the situation.

It's because the 2000 intake is a true dual intake where as the MEVI just has a pocket that air is shot into and then continues on where as the 2000 has to air rails one that is shorter and one that is longer. Thus the reason the 2000 gets better HP. Also the reason why it would fit a 4th gen maxima. There is one guy at the moment that is trying to figure and way to do it but no doubt it will cost a lot of money. But who knows? If it works all 4th gen maxima will probably get much much faster with the extra 30hp.
Aren't there internal engine differences between the VQ30DE and the VQ30DE-K? I thought many of the internals were refined in the K version of the engine. It's not really just the intake and exhaust that is different. I think I read somewhere that 50% of the compenents in the engine were changed in one way or another. The cams are definitely different too. So the variable intake and exhaust don't make up all of the power difference.

With a 5th gen intake, a 4th gen should be able to produce more than just the extra 32 horses that the 5th gens have. I am a believer that the 5th gen manifold will fit on a 4th gen. I have a 5th gen strut bar on my 4th gen which rubs a little, but it fits. If the strut bar fits, then the manifold should fit as well. The only problem is with the sensor wiring and the complex vacuum hoses on the 5th gen manifold. It will not be an easy swap, but it should be doable.
