Well my friend.....if you did a search you would see that I bruoght up this same topic a couple of months ago....If your car is 5spd and he is auto you'll win.....vice versa and you'll need a y-pipe...intake and exhaust to beat em....if you are both 5spd......it's up to you well..you should win being that you are a decsnt driver........go on make us proud!! Make sure it isn't a s/c TRD vesion cuz you'll get your a** handed 2 u if you don't have a s/c also......glok will perhaps help u out too

Just race him and see. What are the transmissions on each car?

If both cars are stock, you will loose. If they are both stock and 5 spd's, if he's a shi*ty driver, you'll win. However, any other way, you're gonna loose. But it's always fun to try.

I never actually raced a Solara or a Camry. But the time I drove a post-97 V6 Camry I wasn't that impressed with the performance. It's nowhere near Maxima.

I drove a Solara and it isn't as fast as an auto Max. If both are 5 spds, Max will still win. Only way a Solara will win is if they have 5 spd and you have auto and even then, it should be close.

From Experience....

I have driven a 2000 Camry Solara SE Auto because I drive my girl's car to school sometimes, and sometimes we argue over who's car is faster. We both have auto's but we race each other for fun several times. As of the last time we raced, which was about a week ago, first I drove my 97 GLE (auto) against her car and we we're dead even, I guess who ever got a good takeoff would stay in front the whole time. Then, we switched cars and in it was basically the same concept, even. All I have under the hood was a K&N cone intake and I guess if it wasn't for that, we wouldn't be be able to keep up beside her. There may be other takes on the topic, but that's my opinion from behind the wheel, I may be wrong.

Two autos YUCK! J/K I think you might edge him since the auto solara is a pretty heavy car, although it does have 10 more hp and more torque, who knows, i have never even sat in a solara and dont know anyone that owns one. I have raced a few and spanked em but that was 5 speed vs. auto.
