Remove or bend back the bracket that held the factory pipe.

I have the same problem. I completely removed the bracket but still have the same thing he has. Could it be the flex?

Wrap up your y-pipe with DEI exhaust wrap. Your new y-pipe will be easier to remove than the original. Just take the pipe off, wrap, and hose clamp. It should be much quieter...

will that cause dirt build up in the wrap?

i just went back to budget and they welded something down there so that the rattling would stop. i suspect that if you took it to a local muffler place they would just do it for free (take it when they're not busy) it only took like 2 mins.

If you wrap it tightly and use hose clamps it shouldn't be a problem. You can really see the y-pipe unless you're on the ground. Also, it's availible in black if you don't like the normal hemp color that it comes in.

I had a rattle right after my y install. It was mainly when letting off the gas at high RPMs. It sounded as if it was coming from the rear of the car, though. Even though I only changed out the y, with the cat and b-pipe hanging by themselves for a few minutes, it caused a shift in the b-pipe. I found the b rubbing two different places against the heatshields. Something you might not think about that you should check.

Where can you get the DEI exhaust wrap and is there a way to not take off the pipe and install the wrap. I went through a lot of trouble installing it, and I don't want to go through it again.

i will not live with the rattle. you MUST take off the y. it is easier to be taken off when its not the stock one..much easier to get too..you don't even need a lift.

seeing as how it looks like it might cost 10 bucks to fix, being exhaust wrap, and having a few things welded on to stablize my exhaust for free...still less expensive. though we'll see how much it costs to get rid of it...it will not rattle when im done with it i swear!

I don't know, maybe it's just me. My friend rode with me and he said it sounded hot, and he stood outside the car and he said it sounded nice. Maybe I'm just a picky guy. I told him it kinda sounded like a lawnmower, but he said not really, just nice growl too it. Maybe if I find a tape recorder i'll post the sound and see what you guys think

I wrapped mine before I installed it. I got mine from Summit racing, I think it was 25 bucks. You could probably wrap it without taking it off, but it really would be easier to take it off. The aftermarket y-pipe is a piece of cake to remove. The factory one's a b!otch. It's supposed to increase HP by keeping the exhaust gases hotter (probably too little to feel) along with reducing the sound. Wear gloves when you wrap it, I'm still pulling out tiny fiberglass splinters from my hands.

My y-pipe used to make a rattling sound but I found what the problem was. My rear 02 sensor was not screwed all the way down so it caused it to hit the heat shield above it. After I screwed the sensor back in, the noise was gone. By the way, exhaust wrap does wonders for aftermarket y-pipes.
