did i get a fair deal on my 96 max

just want some input on my 96 gle, the only option i didnt get is heated seats. otherwise its marroon w tan leather. the interior is in very good shape with minimal ammount of dings (door etc) on the exterior. its from georgia ie. no salt or rust and dealer mantained. the only downfall is 165k miles no mods. paid 5100 for it. is that a fair deal or great or bad? thanks again for all your input. its the wifes car looking to get a 5th gen to possibly slightly mod to "enhance" performance. thanks again, looking forward to talking to u all!!!!

congrats on your purchase

i think you would have been better off getting a car w/ less miles... 165k miles is alot. Good luck w/ it!

Thats alot of miles. I still think I got a pretty good deal on mine. I paid $7,000 for my 96 GLE with 27,000 miles. It had a 97+ front and rear converseion with black leather, bose, climate control, heated seats and everything. I think you could've gotten it for less, you could've dipped into high 4's, atleast I would've tried to.

it all depends on the condition of the car IMO. For example, if the car was a one owner car that was garaged, with all highway miles and was maintained that would be a good deal. Properly maintained these cars last a REALLY long time. I paid like $10,000 for my 96 I30 with 59k about a year ago, I think I could sell it for right around $7,500 right now with 85,000 miles, I dont mind the $3,000 depreciation because I really enjoy the car. The bottom line is that if you are happy with the car and it doesnt give you any headaches than you got a good deal, thats what really matters!!

Exactly, I agree, all depends on how it was maintained, there are some maximas that are really beat with low miles...I bought mine from original owner who was 60 years old and the interior is mint with only minor stone chips on front hood,,all maintenace records, oil changes every 3k with synthetic and tranny fluid changes every 15k...paid $5400 last december ,96 gxe automatic with 116k at the time, now has 129k and the fluids stay clean,,,so its the maintenance records and the type of owner is what I look for,not miles as much.... Good luck with your Max guy!

got a 1999 GXE last week with 80K miles on it for 5600. It was a bank repo. that's something to think about, as there is an entire market that is shaped around banke repossession vehicles, or theft recovered vehicles.

just my 2 cents

the 99 repo came out of a dealership in Joplin Missouri. a website to get started looking at these types of vehicles is: http://www.dealsonwheels.com/repairable/index.cfm?

Philly96Maxima, you are right, some of them are beat to death, and so you have to be careful at the ones that you are looking at, and or purchase. if you have questions most of these dealerships will tell you exactly what has happened to the car that they know of, and also offer a full carfax report as well.

This is my third car dealing with this type of market, and I have had good experiences all three times. Your mileage may vary...

I bought my 1999 SE as a bank reposession for $4500 in January. The only things that were "wrong" with it were the radio had been taken out, the brakes needed to be replaced, and there was a scratch in the door. 3 easy fixes and the car was pretty much brand new. As long as you know what you are getting into, it really is not a bad idea.
