The hairdryer method abled me to peel off the rubber striping easily, but underneath it was a stripe that's painted on. I've used oven cleaner EZ-Off and a plastic scraper to get the painted stripes off. I think it is harmful to the paint if you leave that stuff on for too long. But at the time I was desperate and would try anything. I've heard wetsanding then repolishing might work also.

Factory pinstripes for 4th gens are painted on (from what I was told). A friend of mine does body work, and I was gonna replace a fender and he told me that he'd have to hand paint the stripe back on.

i just had mine removed on my 96 I30....its not painted on mine, it was vinyl or something that was able to be peeled off....I just paid a paint shop 20 bucks to remove them and it looks great! Makes the car look much newer! If you get about 1 inch close to the car and really look you can see a faint outline, but its virtually invisible from any normal distance. Now for a question of my own....I just removed the I30 emblem and it left an a$$ load of adhesive to the car! I used a hair dryer and rubbed most of the large chunks off but there is still a lot off misc. little fragments....what can I use to remove the residues? Or should I just pay again (probably no more than 5 bucks) to have it buffed off?

so i guess us who have pinstripe that is painted on there is no way it will come off unless i got a paint job to cover it up... or i was thinkin of getting a crome pinstripe to go over top so i cud match that up with other crome ideas for my car...

My stripes were vinyl, and I was able to peel them off with just my nails, nothing else.
