Problem with Stock BOSE radio

I'm having a problem controlling the volume of the stock radio. When ever I want the volume to go up(turning it clockwise) it goes down. When I want the volume to go down(counter clockwise)it goes up. It isn't consistant with the turn of the ****. The volume also goes up and down when ever I just turn the **** one way. It's like it's toying with me. It's really frustrating to have to deal with this. The volume doesn't cooperate with the volume turning ****. This usually happens when i first start my car, when the car is cold. When the radio warms up it usually stops. I hate to spend money on a system because i'm content with the bose system.
I'm a student with not much money. Can't really afford to buy an aftermarket system( i'd rather save on a VI or ECU) because of money issues. Does anybody know if I can open the head unit and correct the problem by myself?

Mine does the same thing but not as bad as yours. When I try to turn the volume down fast it goes up, for me the key is to turn the **** slowly.
