Anyone ever smell burning antifreeze?

Last night, I was out, and I turned off my car only to smell one of the most disgusting smells my nose has ever encountered; 'a mix of dog poo and burning rubber' would adequately describe it. ANYWAYS, I think the smell was burning coolant, so I let it sit for a while, then started it up and checked the level when I got home. It was low, so I threw some more in. Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem was? Thanks in advance..

Burning antifreeze has usually smelled sweet to me. You can usually see where it's evaporating from because it'll have a greenish white residue where it's leaking.

Coolant was low? Check to see if it's brownish in color. Check the oil if it's milkshake-ish in color. Yes to either one could mean headgasket problems
