Every since I been reading on the ORG I hear a lot of talk about the Maxima being a fast car. For me going from a 97 Mitsubishi Mirage to 98 Max, yeah the Max is pretty quick, but fast? Sure there are a couple N/A guys running into the 13s, but for the most part 14s and 15s seem to be the norm. So how do you think your Max's are holding up against other cars, i.e. VWs 1.8ts, WRXs, Mustang GTs and your favorites the Hondas. Cause every time I read "Yeah, I smoked a (insert car) last night", it's typically against some ricer with loud exhaust and no real power mods and the Max has most of the available N/A mods. So what do guys consider fast?

As far as "fast" is concerned, wouldn't it be more appropriate to associate that with top speed as opposed to quarter mile times? I'm not sure what guys here have gotten their Max up to as far as top speed goes but more or less, with the bolt-ons on an otherwise all motor Max, I agree with the rest of the other guys; mid 14's and below is quick although a lot of the members here typically like to aim for the low 14's..

No it wouldnt matter what you're top speed is because if the other guy can get to 100 faster than you, it doesnt matter what your top speed may be.

I think my max is slow, but my friends think it's fast, since their cars have nothing done to them. It's all what you think is fast when it comes down to everything.
No it wouldnt matter what you're top speed is because if the other guy can get to 100 faster than you, it doesnt matter what your top speed may be.

Well I would'nt consider our cars slow since they are a damn good race for rsx, with intake exaust versus my y pipe. And I have beaten my friends 01 1.8t gti with just a short ram intake multiple times. I have videos of it. Oh and by the way is there any way to put a tape into digital on the comp??? Maxima's are definetly not slow cars. If your not happy with low fourteens' 4700 dollars from customaxima will get you a turbo kit. And there won't be much that can touch you then.
Yeah I wouldn't call our maximas all out fast, but maybe 'relatively quick'. Stock for stock the 5 speed Max seems to edge out cars in its class and run even with most of the 'sports' cars under $25K today. Pretty respectable performance with more class for less $$, especially since we're talking almost a decade since the 4th gen came out.
To me it seems that anyone with a Civic SI thinks their car is fast when it is not. Besides beating them, I have beaten a Mustang GT 1995 stick, and my brothers 5-speed GTI VR6 off the line...he now has the 6-speed 24V GTI for about a week now and when the snow melts in Chicago, I guess we'll see. That might favor him now. I have beaten the 94-96 Chevy Impala, and I even raced another one on I-65 all the way to 143 mph. The 143 mph run was dead even acceleration. I nosed out a Grand Prix GTP off the line, tore up a 2001 Monte Carlo SS off the line and later from 45-110, and a 97 style Eclispe GSX. This is probably why this past summer I got a ticket clocked at 128 mph! Not fun. But oh well, time for a good radar detector!

Besides, how many $27,000 4-door sedans out there are beating these cars with 190 hp, or even hitting 14.8-15.1 in the 1/4 while topping out at 143 mph with over 30 mpg hwy at 70 mph cruise reliably

But yeah 205tq does get you pretty far on our 3000lb cars, more than people expect.

To answer the other question, I am a 5-speed Max stock with a Stillen cone intake. Of all the above cars, the GTP is the toughest to race because unless I get a perfect launch, forget it. They are fast, but we are faster
Even the times on all car mags have our cars listed quicker.
i think high 13's would be a very comfortable place for me. asking how fast, i dunno. there is so much competition. every car you can whip, theres five more than can trash you at the track. A max in the mid to low 14's can hold its own up against many of the imports.
Watch out for chipped VW 1.8T's, they're not nearly as slow as people on the org make them out to be. The Maxima to me is definately not a 'fast' car, it can be made to be a 'quick' car, but not fast. Fast to me is low 13's or under and the only people able to hit that range are people running 100+shots of nitrous or insane amounts of boost. For a sport sedan it's fast, but not fast when you compare it to some cars out there, mainly cars in different leagues. To me and others though it's one of the best bang for the buck cars when it comes to looks, performance, reliability, practicality and price.

To me, a Maxima pulling mid to low 14s is pretty dang fast for a NA V6 sedan. Nearly every time I go to the track, I'm both the quickest 4-door and usually in the top three of the quickest imports.
I owned a lower 13-second Z28 prior to the Maxima and I can tell you that getting respect with a V8 muscle/sports car is nearly impossible. EVERYONE expects you do be fast and if you're not running at least 12s, it's "oh yah, another 13-14 second F-Body". Even though my Maxipad is significantly slower than my Z28 was, I get a ton more respect and people get a kick out watching me hang with or beat some 99+ GTs or outreact or out 60' an LS1 driver at the line and smoke them to 1/8 mile only to get beat by 3 cars in the far end. Running fairly consistent 14.4-14.5s at my track puts me in the league (13-14 second) of what most people consider pretty quick street cars. Sure, there are plenty of 9 to 12 second rides that show up to my track, but 90% of them are trailored in. If I was willing to give some driveability and reliability and probably trailor my car in, I'd invest about 6 grand in a 300fwhp turbo kit with a 50hp nitrous shot plus a set slicks with skinnies in the rear. There's no doubt this setup would do low 12s and would turn far more heads than some Buick Grand National.
