car won't downshift sometimes.. ATF? (auto)
1996 gle auto
transmission rebuilt by aamco 14 months ago (2500 bucks!)
its out of their warranty now, and has had trouble downshifting to pass people, or sometimes when i come to a stop it stays in 2nd - my ATF has ~40k miles on it now, and i was going to change it out. any ideas on what the PROVEN *best* ATF has been for solid shifting, rectifying the wierd shifting issues of our auto trannies? its fine when its cold, but when it heats up its quite a poop... thanks for any responses

you should do a tranny service job. Most shops just change the fluid but to do it right, you will have drain the tranny fluid, drop the pan and replace the metal filter inside.
When i did mine, i ordered the filter, a new gasket, and new screws that come with a noncorrosive grease in the threads, all from the nissan dealer.
I used to have a slight pause when shifting into second and the maintenance fixed it. at 11,000 later, its still running like a champ. just a suggestion. good luck.
