The way i see it is.. it has to be the Wood Trim and Leather

like a theif knows the difference between a GXE Auto and a GLE..

it has to be the wood trim and Leather they are looking at when they steal it..

or could also be that they can't drive 5spds and most of the Auto's are GLE's?

I dunno

happy thought

This is nice to know that I own the car that is the most highly stolen in the state I live in. Does really well for trying to keep the insurance premium down.
sheesh!!

God, why our Maximas? (other than the fast engine, the beautiful body...the leather...oh yeah...I guess i see why they would want to steal it.)

Also

I just looked at the other breakdowns for the other states, none of the nearby states have maxima's as the highly stolen car (nowhere near the top 10).
It seems that only in NYS is the car stolen so much...

what is with that?
I am surprised they don't take the SE more than the GLE!@!!

my sentiments exactly, you would think that they'd be after the SE's... although maybe car theives are more apt to sell them to the older generation!

Stolen Maximas

Well, in and around the NYC area, Maximas are EXTREMELY popular. 3rd, 4th, and 5th Gens. I see at least 4 a day on my commutes. Since there are lots of Maximas, there's a great need for lots of parts. The GLE has almost everyhting, one stop shopping for a theif, I guess.

I'm glad I got a manual tranny. They don't seem to be highly targeted cars at all. I should put a light inside that constantly keeps the area around the gearbox lit. Maybe it will be more discouraging than the club

The main reason why Hondas and Toyotas are in the top 10 is because they sell more cars. There are more Accords and Camrys on the road compared to Maximas. Because of this, there is more of a market for parts on these cars.

remind me not to buy a 97GLE when I look for a 4th gen........

Actually, you won't have to, since I won't be able to afford one anyways

Crap, that sucks.

But, like the commercial says, "New Yorks best selling V6."

I just saw the list of most stolen in U.S. the old boxy shaped Camry's 87/88/89 are like the most stolen for a bunch of consecutive years now.
I think NYC crooks look for luxury or something that stands out about the looks of the car. Just tint the **** out of your windows and don't mod the exterior, never clean it either. and you minimize the chances of your car getting stolen You might also want to try and put a dent in the door or fender on purpose, as a turn off for thieves

Re: remind me not to buy a 97GLE when I look for a 4th gen........

I guess D is right--the GLE has everything, and it is a one stop shopping spree.
in any case, yeah, get like a 98 or 99 SE fully loaded or something...
Actually, the GLE 97 aren't that much now. I have been keeping track of the prices in the papers, and most folks are asking like 12500- 15000 depending on the mileage...and I think once the new 3.5L engine comes out, the prices might be even lower...

beettter watch out!!

Rocky--
you are not off the endangered list yet--your 95 SE is still in the top 20 or so if I remember correctly.

I'd still lock the baby up so these theives won't get their grimy little paws on it.

Here in NC, seven of the top ten cars stolen are Hondas. The Maxima didn't make the top 25.

Speaking of the most stolen maximas, mine almost got stolen on monday this week. They broke into it from the passenger side window, never even opened the door. I guess so the alarm didnt go off. The ripped apart my steering column. They didnt get the car because of Multilock. They busted the lock in the steering column that controls the tranny shifter, so that you could just slide between gears without pressing anything. They managed to bend the multilock on the side so all they could do was pop the car into reverse. I guess its the leather and woodtrim and the fact i have barely 30k on it. They did get a cheap pyramid amp and some crappy box i built from home depot, that used to sit in my 87 cavalier. I never got to take picture yet since i got it to the shop that night. It wont be fixed for a few days so maybe i can still get some and post them. This happened in queens.

Can someone tell me why late 80's early 90's Toyota Camrys are so popular with thieves? I don't really see a whole lot of those driving around anymore. Maybe it's because they've all been stolen.

Remind me not to go to NY. My car is #2 on that list. Looks like I'm safe here in Massachusetts, no maximas at all in the top 25. Although I see tons of 4th gens here.

Also, for those who don't know, you can go here to get stats on any state, not just NY.

Go figure

I live in Houston and I believe the most stolen car is the Toyota camary. The thieves most know how protective Maxima owners are. Don't mess with our cars!

Re: Go figure

or we'll just "bust a cap in their A$$??" hahah.
yeah we are pretty protective of our cars.

But here in Queens my cousin just had his 94 Honda accord EX stolen. It was fully loaded and he parked it a block away from our house.

Queens is a high insurance rate area...well, anywhere in NYC is high...sucks!!
