What is this sensor...?

Im trying to find out what this sensor is, and what the substance is that is leaking out of it. The pictures are from the passenger end looking at the side of the timing chain cover.

I think it's the crank angle sensor. I'm positive it will tell you in a Haynes manuel. My guess is crank angle sensor.

Just checked my manuel it's the crank position sensor!!!
And more then likely its motor oil leaking out of it?

Does that sensor have an o-ring?

Yes, it has an o-ring. Mine leaked in the past on my old motor. Nothing that good old permetex ultra grey can't fix......Or you can go to your local hardware store and "try" to find a right sized o-ring, or you ma be able to order it from Nissan.

BTW, that is oil leaking from the sensor......

I have some permetex left over from my valve cover gasket job.

Is that a problem that it is leaking from the sensor?

Probably not but if you're like me, you don't want oil leaking out of anywhere.

Nah, you are fine. Just remove the one 10mm head bolt, through a little permatex on it and slap it back in. Remember not to use too much as it may hinder the sensor from actually working.....
