How Many Miles Are On Your Max??? Please Post
#84
Just hit 167K, and I just had my first problem with my max. Not even a major problem, the sunroof cable detached. Other than that, I have had NO other trouble. Still runs excellent. Still have the stock clutch. Everything is going great. I plan on keeping it another 167K miles...

had the manual tranny shim issue, previous owner rebuilt @ 90k. He also repainted the car the original black so it looks like new. My gain. :-)
87 wagon had 140,000 when sold. Just a bunch of small issues due to it's age and not the mileage. It was ~16 years old when sold and still looked and ran well. We even roadtripped the Southwest for a week last summer in the wagon. This is why I bought another max.

I bought my '97 SE 5spd from a lady 5 months ago with 49,990mi on the odometer... i was so proud of my find. The interrior is flawless, but the outside does have some scratches and dings (nothing major.. but c'mon, its almost 8 years old now... gotta fix those.)
It's now got just about 60k (unfortunately i drive *alot*) but my baby runs like a charm.
I just did the clear tail conversion myself last night, and I've got the corner lights + PIAA superwhite headlight/foglights on the way along with a B&M short throw, at which time i'm custom fitting my MOMO leather shift boot to my console (it threads directly into the base of my MOMO shiftknob for a sleek look. can't wait.)
As for performance all i have is new plugs and k&n drop filter... debating on what to do next still.

My 1998 SE auto has 82,000 miles now and it has been very reliable so far(wife has a 99 G20 w/75k). The only mod is K&N drop-in air filter. I will keep it as long as it runs. But we will definately get another brand new car after it hits 120,000 miles for back-up purpose.

97 SE with 119,500 miles...I just bought her a few months ago and I was looking at some of the papers the previous owner had and noticed he put 80K miles on her in his 3 years that he owned the Max. I'm assuming much of that is highway miles...perhaps a longer life now?

So, I still dont believe a VQ would do that, but hey, i didnt own the car for the first 170k.
Not to post ***** or anything.

Ok My engine was replaced at 113,000.
It was a mistake, we thought it had bent valves when the water pump was replaced. The ignition timing was off even after putting the dam thing on time.
It was because the iginition lead on top of the motor by the oil cap. Was giving a wrong reading of 20 degrees before top dead center. Its supposed to be 15 TDC. Anyway we found this out after a purchase of a 99 used VQ30DE out of a Infiniti I30 was put in. It had 38,000 miles on it. Now the car has 135,000 miles on it, the auto is still running strong. So this means the motor has 70,000 miles on it now.
