Check for crank and camshaft sensors in your codes. These have been going out on a lot of people as of late (myself included).

All lights seem normal, I'll double check the security light.
What acutally happened was I put the key in and the normal chimes didn't come on. The car started but I turned it off to see if the chimes would come on. Then it wouldn't start. Waited a minute, tried again and it started then it turned right off. Waited, waited, won't start but turns over fine. I hear a soft unfamiliar groan when I try to start it which might be something...

Now when you say "Not getting any codes" do you mean there are no codes at all? If the system is fine it should still throw a system ok code.
So if you are NOT getting any codes AT ALL your ECU could have gone belly up.

That's possible I suppose, but I thought the car has to be running to get a code...

Yea, check to see if the security light is on solid. If it is, then your immobilizer has been activated. If so call the dealership and have your car towed there. They'll have to reprogram the keys. Make sure to bring any spare keys with you.

Ps: Its usually not to cheap either. It seems to run anywhere from $40-75/per key. Just a heads up.

Yes, when cranking the engine the security light is on solid -- does this definitely mean it's the security chip? I have two keys and both don't work (also checked all the fuses). Why would this happen out of the blue?

Anybody have a similar experience?
Thanks,
Th.

You can check codes just by turning the key to the ON position without the car running.
But your problem is definitely the chip in the key.
Expect to cough up some good money.

Yep, your immoblizer been activated. Common problem with the 99's. Only dealer can reprogram. Usually runs $110-140.

Thanks,
