Rear Wheel Hub Bearing

Rear Wheel Hub Bearing
I was driving my 98 Max and could hear a hollow-sounding hum coming from the back. My mechanic told me it was the rear wheel hub bearing. Fair enough. I had him replace the driver side hub bearing. However, the sound is still there. I'm obviously going to bring it back to him and get his input. I'm thinking it might be the other hub bearing.
Has anyone done this repair on their own? The Haynes Manual procedure looks like it takes some time. Any advice as I'm thinking of doing this on my own?

Easy job if you have power tools, or at least a braker bar to brake cenral nut loose.
I had 2 hubs done few weeks ago but humming is back, I guess one was not good.
How much did you pay for the job?

I paid $220 to have one side done. The humming sound is still there and I'm thinking of doing the other side myself. First I'm going to make sure that it isn't poor workmanship by my mechanic.
How bad was the central nut on? What was the hardest part? How long of a breaker bar did you need? And lastly, how long did the whole repair take you?

dude look at you tires!!!
I dont know how many time I have seen people replace whheel bearing even though the proplem was because thier tire were cupped of chopped.
Also if it is a wheel bearing it will change in sound or volume when you swerve from side to side.

To replace 2 rear hubs I paid 125 with used parts supplied by shop. I came back in 5 minutes because 1 hub they put on was not good. So far so good. I know price is great, put I went with used hubs.

Part of me wants you guys to be right and part of me doesn't because then I'd feel foolish.
In any event, I know the two rear tires are pretty bad. When I swerve side to side, I don't recall the pitch of the hum changing but never specifically paid attention to that.
I need new tires anyways so I'll get them changed and see what happens. I'll report back with my findings.
Thanks guys.
