can anyone give me good suggestions for a CAI?.....

i just got rid of my ebay downpipe i had on this CAI setup i have, the cheap metal becomes hotter as the temperature around it becomes hotter so during long driving periods, under the hood gets extremely hot , this insane heat brings up the temp. in the downpipe so it's not exactly a cold air intake anymore, so my question is in connection with the metal on the tube of the CAI, some metal just doesn't conduct heat so at all conditions it remains thermally appropriate at all times, does anyone know any good proven to be reliable CAI setups out there that are made of quality material? and im asking for recommendations, not suggestions, for those wondering whats the difference between them, and the answer is suggestions are just ideas, could come from anywhere for any reason without regard to its validity, but a recommendation is something thats been used or tried by someone who after evaluation was satisfied and wants to recommend the same experience to someone else, so if anyone has something out there they could enlighten me about, it would be helpful, i dont wanna spend $250-$300 on an Injen CAI right away and all i need is the midpipe and the downpipe, thats it, dont need a filter so if anyone again, knows anything good about this stuff, please let me know if make me an offer

also, how much difference is there between a short ram intake setup and cold air intake setup, like specifics-wise, what are the number differences between the two setups in performance, anyone know these kind of details? please shed some knowledge and also...

anyone take their max to the track? what kind of numbers does it do with just an CAI upgrade?

If you're talking about a true CAI into the fender, then how about using header wrap to cover the downpipe? I think all the pipes from about every company are aluminum, so there really won't be much of a difference in the actual metals.

No need for an english lesson, especially seeing as you're entire post is a huge run-on sentence. Read the stickies.

Wow it was hard reading that. Are you saying that you want to know who makes an intake that does not heat up as much as the Ebay ones? To know all about intakes read the STICKIES.

ugh that was rough to read but from what I gather...

CAI in most cases gives you sound and some say top-end. Ive switched back and forth between my CAI and stock setup and I still cant decide. Right now Im running the mix with Stock resonator box-->maf-->downpipe into fender. This setup currently is working out real well.

With the heat absorption onto the different pipes you are talking about I wouldnt worry about it. But like 98maximagle said you could wrap it in header wrap, or possibly spray some heat resistant paint onto the downpipe but I dont think its worth it IMO. As for which CAI to get just check ebay and get a cheap one that floats your boat. They go for 40 bucks

I can give you some good advice on a CIA. Dont waste your money. If you really want a new air intake then just get a short ram one.

So you're saying that the short ram is better than a CAI? How?

But remember, the short ram sucks in a lot of hot air under the engine bay, at least the CAI is getting cooler air from under the car.

There was a post done a long time ago where someone did thermal mapping of the engine compartment and the outside air. Once the car is moving there is no difference between the air temps. So at idle I suppose the CAI could have a slight advantage. I just dont know too many people that race/use their car with out it moving.

Speaking of place racing intakes...do they make them for 97-99 maximas? and if they don't is it possible to customize it to fit?
Does anyone have an ebay Bomz intake? If so can u tell me if there are any gains from it?

They think that rambling on, trying to sound smart while asking, will get them free cookies. Sorry dawg, I go with what everyone has said, read the stickies!

Or use a header wrap around the down-pipe and be done with it. Personally, stock intake is the best setup for the VQ30. Don't waste your money on something that would only give you around 3-5 hp's if that. Many of the old timers here will tell you that they've done and tried all and went back to stock.

either stay stock
or go lightweight battery, frankencar midpipe, kn style filter and remove your clearance light if you are going to race. if you are just wanting the mod then anything will do.
