Overall I'd go with the Beltronics Pro RX65.

The only big difference with the V1 is the arrows and slighty better laser than the other two.
Also buying them on ebay can be a gamble, alot of them are usually refurbished and the sellers wont hold up to their warranties. You also cant get a factory warranty from Valentine, Beltronics, or Escort if you buy them from ebay

Well, before getting V1 i read on different forums and from what i saw, websites favor Escort and Beltronics, but 'users' always give thumbs up to V1. Also, i dont remember many people going from V1 to Escort or Beltronics, but the opposite.

Radar detectors
I disagree with a few things here...one, the money you are paying for a detector is basically for brand name here, i have done my own research and for being an owner of a detector for 3 years i have found that range is determined on the police vehicle's angles and range in which he is directing. I own an earlier model cobra (an average detector at best) and have a windshield tint. In contrary about range with tints, i sometimes pick up Kband radars from 100 ft to a mile. I have picked them up so far away i thought it was interference cuz it stayed on so long. Bottom line, i have known people with valentines and passports that go off just as much as $100 ones. I have learned to live with beeps and flashing lights and all that cuz it saves my a$$ when i need it too, and annoys me when i dont.

radars!
have u seen the date on that Car & Driver comparison they use in ad's?? its pretty old and since then, the Escort 8500 is now the 8500 X50...which is a great unit that i have used on many roadtrips. Also, the beltronics rx65 is a great unit and is the same unit as the escort 8500 X50, only the Rx65 version offers voice mode and has KU band detection. I opted for the Beltronics RX65 b/c of this. Also note that beltronics and Escort are the same company! and if you purchase on ebay or any other non-official site...there is no warranty!

Its not a special type of detector, you can use anyone. What happens is its installed after market. There's brackets that can be installed behind the grill where the detector fits between them. Then u can run a switch to the dash.
I know Range Rover come with them factory installed

The most intelligent radar detector dissertation you'll ever read.
from studying this stuff quite a bit over the last several years, i've come to the following conclusion:
performance:
------------
Valentine One - 100 out of 100 points
Escort Passport 8500 x50 or Beltronics rx65 Pro - 95 out of 100 points
price (including case):
--------------------
V1 - $399 + $29 = $428. (only available online; never goes on sale)
Escort Passport 8500 x50 or Beltronics rx65 Pro - $299. (I got my x50 with BLUE display for $260 from an authorized-retailer brick-and-mortar store)
It's really a simple matter of comparing price to performance ratios. In my mind, the x50 and rx65 are a far better deal than the V1. Any real performance differences between them are marginal at best. Any reviews we read, whether online or in print, are bound to be biased one way or another because they're either selling something or raking in the advertising dollars. As far as the V1 arrows go, they're overrated. If any detector goes off, the only rational thing to do is to slow down (or at the least, stop accelerating), until you know what caused it, so I don't see how the arrows add any value.
In conclusion, people who buy the V1 do so for the brand name recognition and its "premium" status. No doubt, for many years it was the superior detector. But these days, it's simply not convincing that that is still the case.
Note that all of this is my opinion and you're more than welcome to disagree with it. Just don't expect me to listen!

wouldn't you want to know where the signal is comming from?

I would like the arrows, I just dont think its worth the extra $100 for them

radar
If you get hit with a Laser/Lidar......good luck having your detector pick it up. The Lidar sys is a very fine narrow beam...unlike radar. And since it is aimed at Front plate/headlights, the chances of your detector picking it up is very slim. I've used the Lidar Gun on cars B4..it is very precise and it is rarely aimed near the windshield.

i have a v1 and it has saved my *** many time, and as the adds say and the person above, those little arrows are awsome, i would not use another detector without them.
all those radar test site are often funded pretty heavily by radar detector companies theselves.
also you can always get you radar detector upgraded through Valentine, and they are exelent with warrenty, and custom service. my vote is for th v1 i love mine, and will buy nthing eles

Its all a matter of opinion for which one you prefer, but in reality, a V1 is $100 more expensive for arrows and slighty better laser.
If you are that concerned with laser, put that $100 towards a jammer
