Keys: Transponder vs. Non

Any reason a key with a transponder in it could not be cut for a car with out a transponder? Im looking at this key for a GT-R, but it has the transponder in it. Specifies 98+ Nissans. I dont see any obvious reason it wouldnt work, but Im not an ignition expert.

As long as the car doesn't have the immobolizer, I don't see why it wouldn't work? Did anyone tell you that it won't work with the transponder key?
